The Easiest Crochet Flower Pot Pattern

Back in early June 2019, when I have just started my hobby of crocheting, me and my husband went to Baku, Azerbaijan for a short trip. While we were visiting a souvenir shop, I saw these lovely items together with the other products:

I was amazed by their beauty. I know for sure that this was handmade considering crochet products are always made by hand unlike knitted products which can be made by knitting machine. I was hesitant to buy these flowers since we have a strict budget for our trip, so I have decided to make these as my new project – a crocheted flower pot.

I really don’t have any idea on how to do this but then I was really determined to make this project. It was very beautiful and I love flowers. I was planning to make it as a home decoration as well. Therefore, I researched patterns on how to do it, checked it on Google and watched some Youtube videos. I have found different options on how to do it and also found several samples of outputs just like below:

THE ROSES

First, I have collected different colors of yarn which I could make as flowers, some wires which I cut into short lengths that I could make as the stems and backbone for the leaves and a pot which I bought from the flower shop which to be covered by yarn. Then, I started making the flowers which I think was around 8 to 10 pieces in different colors.

I have based the pattern of these flowers from a Youtube vlogger, the problem is… I could not find the vlog anymore as I wasn’t able to note down the link (kindly let me know if you found a pattern almost same like this). Here’s the pattern I have followed to make these cute roses:

Legend:
CH – chain ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zzyylyls6KE )
SC – single crochet ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgVOkQcf5qw )
DC – double crochet ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xKssKskNzo )
V-st – V-stitch ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgsBJcoxhaE ) – can be made by: DC-1, CH-2, DC-1 on the same stitch
st/sts – stitch/stitches (just to make it short)

Row 1: CH-118
Row 2: DC-1 on 4th CH from the hook, Ch-1, skip 2 sts, V-st on 3rd st, CH-1
then, **skip 2 sts, V-st, CH-1**
<repeat ** to ** until end of the row, Total: 39 V-sts>
Row 3: CH-3 (considered as DC-1), V-st
then, **CH-2, V-st on the next V-st below***
<repeat ** to ** until end of the row>
Row 4: **DC-10 on the 1st CH-2 space below, SC-1 on next CH-2 space below**
<repeat ** to ** to complete 2 groups of DC-10>

**DC-8 on the 1st CH-2 space below, SC-1 on next CH-2 space below**
<repeat ** to ** to complete 8 groups of DC-10>

**DC-7 on the 1st CH-2 space below, SC-1 on next CH-2 space below**
<repeat ** to ** to complete 7 groups of DC-10>

**DC-6 on the 1st CH-2 space below, SC-1 on next CH-2 space below**
<repeat ** to ** to complete 9 groups of DC-10>

**DC-5 on the 1st CH-2 space below, SC-1 on next CH-2 space below**
<repeat ** to ** to complete 3 groups of DC-10>

**DC-4 on the 1st CH-2 space below, SC-1 on next CH-2 space below**
<repeat ** to ** to complete 2 groups of DC-10>

SC-1 on last 1 st below, then lock.
ROLL starting from the last SC done until the last group of DC-10s to produce a flower.
SEW using the same color of yarn using a tapestry needle by sewing the V-stitches produced under the flower. Make sure it’s tight enough.

And there you go… colorful roses.

The roses… I made around 10 pieces in a variety of colors

THE SMALL-SIZED LEAVES
(pattern online-based)

Legend (additional):
HDC – half double crochet ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qdu1tYrOW0 )
TC – treble crochet ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yi3MyRySIf0 )
sl st – slip stitch ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFk-fdAowbY )

1st side: CH-12, SC on 2nd st from the hook, SC on next st,
HDC on next 2 sts, DC-4 on next 4 sts, TC-2 on next 2 sts, TC-7 on the last same st

2nd side: TC-2 on next 2 sts, DC-4 on next sts, HDC-2 on next 2 sts,
SC-2 on next sts, sl st on the very 1st SC

Then, lock by cutting the yarn (just add some allowance), pull it through, and hide the remaining yarn on the middle seam.

And there it is… the small leaves!

THE LONG-SIZED LEAVES
(pattern self-made)

1st side: CH-24, skip 1 st then SC-4, HDC-4, DC-10, TC-4, TC-14 on same last stitch while turning to the other side

2nd side: TC-4, DC-10, HDC-4, SC-4, then lock.

The small and long-sized leaves

THE MEDIUM-SIZED LEAVES
(pattern online-based)

Row 1: (Total: 19 sts)
1st side: CH-15, SC-1 on the 2nd chain from the hook, SC-2, HDC-2, DC-4, HDC-2, SC-3 on the last 3 chains, SC-2 on last same chain, then turn

2nd side: SC-2, HDC-2, DC-4, HDC-2, SC-3 on the last 3 chains, then turn…

Row 2: (Total: 30 sts + 1 picot st)
1st side: SC-14 on sts below, SC-1 on next st, CH-1 then insert hook to the top of SC through side and pull through 3 loops on the hook (also called the “Picot stitch” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2E3vCy7zKk ), SC on same st below, then turn.

2nd side: SC-14 on sts below, then lock.

I don’t have a pic for the medium-sized leaves but you may see it on my final product, you know, those two-colored leaves.

THE OUTPUT

It was a long journey indeed but I enjoyed it! Finishing this product took a lot of handwork and time. Making the flowers made my hands exhausted seriously, sometimes I felt nothing anymore, I guess its because we need to do a lot of DCs on that part. I’ve made a lot of thought reflections and throwbacks providing me a relaxed and peaceful mind. Physically it was exhausting but mentally, it was fulfilling. Finishing a product from scratch to an adorable one like this is an achievement for me. Small thing, but still, another step on my way to improvement.
