There are times when life feels like a never-ending juggling act. For the past few months, I have been balancing my full-time job, blogging, and, of course, my pregnancy.

Being pregnant, hello to all the moms out there!… is not easy, but it is such a beautiful and exciting experience. Like anything else in life, it comes with its own ups and downs.

I have been blogging since December 2019, and after more than two years of writing, learning, and trying to grow my website, I finally received my first payment from Google AdSense in February 2022.

It wasn’t a huge amount of money, but receiving that first payment made me feel incredibly happy and accomplished. It was proof that the time and effort I had invested in my blog were beginning to pay off.

My first website was called SimplyDee.blog, which was then changed to lifemaghealth.com Later, I changed the name and direction of my blog to Pinoy Up North after I finally figured out the main reason I wanted to blog: to share my experiences, health and wellness information, life lessons, and things that I believe could be helpful to other people.

My blogging journey hasn’t always been consistent. There were periods when I could barely write because of work, personal responsibilities, and everything else happening in life. The pandemic also made things more challenging.

Still, blogging became something I could do on the side while working full-time. And when you’re trying to manage your finances, having a possible source of additional income can certainly be encouraging.

My First Google AdSense Payment

After years of writing and learning about blogging, I finally received an email notification from Google AdSense informing me about my payment.

Seeing that notification was such a wonderful feeling.

It wasn’t just about the money.

For me, it represented the time I spent writing articles, learning how websites work, trying to attract readers, sharing my posts, and continuing even when I wasn’t sure whether my blog would ever make money.

That first payment felt like a small reward for not giving up.

How Can You Earn from Google AdSense?

Google AdSense allows website owners and content creators to display advertisements on their websites and potentially earn money when visitors interact with those ads, depending on the type of ad and Google’s applicable policies and payment terms.

However, simply placing advertisements on a website doesn’t guarantee income.

There are several important things bloggers should understand.

1. Create Useful and Original Content

One of the biggest challenges I encountered when I first started blogging was figuring out what people would actually want to read.

Coming up with good topics isn’t always easy.

Sometimes you may spend hours writing an article only to discover that very few people are searching for that particular topic.

My solution was simple: keep writing and keep learning.

Write about topics that fit your niche, answer questions people are genuinely asking, and share information or experiences that provide value to your readers.

You never know which article might eventually attract readers.

2. Follow Google’s Policies

Another important consideration is making sure that your website and content comply with Google AdSense policies.

Your content should provide genuine value to readers and should not rely on misleading practices, deceptive content, prohibited material, or other policy violations.

Avoid practices such as keyword stuffing, hidden text, misleading links, or anything intended to manipulate search engines or advertising systems.

Before applying for AdSense or making significant changes to your website, it is always a good idea to review Google’s current policies because they can change over time.

3. Make Your Website Easy to Navigate

Your website should be easy for visitors to understand and navigate.

Readers should be able to find your articles, categories, menus, contact information, and other important pages without having to search too hard.

At the time I was blogging, I was using WordPress and Elementor to customize the appearance of my website.

I found Elementor beginner-friendly and useful for creating and organizing different sections of my website.

A beautiful website is nice to have, but good navigation and useful content are much more important.

4. Don’t Publish Plagiarized Content

Your blog should contain content that you have created yourself or content that you have the legal right to use.

Don’t simply copy another person’s article and publish it on your website.

As bloggers, we should respect the work of other writers, photographers, and content creators.

If you use information from other sources, properly acknowledge or cite those sources when appropriate.

Your own experience and perspective are what make your blog unique.

5. Don’t Try to Manipulate Your Ad Earnings

One of the most important things to remember when using AdSense is that you should not try to artificially increase your advertising earnings.

Don’t click your own ads, ask other people to click them, or use misleading methods to generate artificial traffic or interactions.

Your earnings should come from genuine visitors and legitimate interactions.

It may be tempting to try to increase your earnings quickly, especially when you see your balance growing slowly, but protecting your account is far more important.

6. Promote Your Blog and Build an Audience

Getting people to discover your blog can take time.

One way to introduce your articles to more people is by sharing them through social media platforms such as Facebook and other relevant channels.

For example, if you write an article about a topic that people are interested in and share it with an appropriate audience, some of those people may visit your website.

However, remember that traffic should be genuine.

Don’t focus only on increasing numbers. Focus on attracting readers who are actually interested in what you have written.

Do You Need a Certain Amount of Traffic to Earn from AdSense?

This is something many new bloggers wonder about.

When I first started learning about AdSense, I often heard different opinions about how much traffic a website needed before it could make money.

The truth is that there is no simple traffic number that guarantees AdSense earnings.

Your earnings can depend on many factors, including your audience, location, content, advertising demand, ad formats, and user engagement.

Having more visitors can certainly provide more opportunities for ad impressions and interactions, but traffic alone does not guarantee significant income.

That’s why I believe bloggers should focus first on creating a useful website and building a genuine audience.

The money can come later.

How Do You Check Your Google AdSense Earnings?

You can check your earnings by signing in to your Google AdSense account.

From there, you can view information about your estimated earnings, finalized earnings, transactions, and payments, depending on the current AdSense dashboard and features available to your account.

The exact layout and menu names may change as Google updates the AdSense platform, so don’t worry if your dashboard looks different from the one shown in my older screenshots.

My First Payment Was More Than Just Money

Receiving my first Google AdSense payment inspired me to continue writing.

For me, it was a huge accomplishment because it was something I had been waiting for after spending years creating content.

When I received that notification in my Gmail inbox, I was honestly surprised and exhilarated!

It wasn’t a large amount of money, but I didn’t care.

I had earned it from something I created.

That feeling was priceless.

What I Learned From My Blogging Journey

If you’re a blogger and you haven’t earned money from your website after several months—or even years—don’t immediately assume that you’re failing.

Blogging takes time.

There may be months when you receive very little traffic. There may be articles that you worked hard on that barely receive any visitors. There may also be days when you wonder whether anyone is reading what you write at all.

I’ve experienced those moments myself.

But if you genuinely enjoy writing and believe that your content can help someone, keep going.

Learn from your statistics. Improve your writing. Experiment with different topics. Learn about SEO. Update your old articles. Make your website better.

And most importantly, be patient.

Final Thoughts

Receiving my first Google AdSense payment taught me something important:

Small achievements are still achievements.

You don’t have to earn thousands of dollars from your blog to feel proud of what you’ve accomplished.

Sometimes, your first payment—no matter how small—is enough to remind you that your hard work is beginning to create something.

Blogging is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It takes time, consistency, creativity, patience, and a willingness to keep learning.

If you’re just starting your blog, don’t become discouraged because you’re not earning money immediately.

Write because you have something meaningful to share.

Write because you want to help someone.

Write because you enjoy expressing yourself.

And if your blog eventually earns money along the way, consider that an added blessing.

My first AdSense payment may not have changed my financial situation, but it definitely changed how I viewed my blogging journey.

It made me believe that even something I started as a simple hobby could eventually become a small source of income.

And sometimes, that’s all the encouragement we need to keep going.
