Customized Labels For Your Handmade Products: Where To Get

This summer, I have had several crocheters and crafters ask me the following 2 questions:

1) where do you purchase the labels you add to your products?, and
2) how do you attach them?

These two questions are what prompted this blog post and tutorial!

Adding a customized label to any finished crochet project can really help set it apart from others. Not only are labels great for advertising, but they also add a more professional finish to your crochet! These labels can really add a unique charm to your handicrafts. You can use it on scarves, hats and others.

This ribbon tag is what I have ordered from Look At Me Print. They mainly print customized labels in different items such as gifts. It took less than a week for me to receive the item and gladly, they helped me with designing it. Apparently that time, I did not have any idea about the design, yet they have courteously and patiently helped me on achieving what I need, since I need it to look simple yet elegant and professional so that it would stand out on my crochet products. And this was what we came up:

After few days, it arrived in a neat plastic packaging and included a nice postcard with all of the care information you’ll need. I highly recommend them!

How to Attach Labels to Crocheted Items

MATERIALS

  • Heavy duty scissors
  • Yarn sewing needle (dull tip and larger eye)

STEP ONE: Cut the label.

Using heavy duty scissors, cut your labels to size. It can be hard to control the precision of the cuts, so the sharper the scissors, the better.

STEP TWO: Sew on the label.

Using your yarn needle and thread of choice, sew on the label. Start from the underside/ wrong side of the item, to keep the side that shows nice and neat. Leave a tail when you first insert the needle, so that you can knot the other end to it when you’re done. To make sure it stay secure, I like to tie a square knot and sew using a simple alternating stitch.

Trim excess thread ends and you’re done!

I knew I wanted a label for my handmade crochet products, but had NO idea what to put. So, you don’t want to put something too long, and have the label be a nuisance.

Below are some of my products, I usually label all of them though some weren’t shown on pictures because I usually sew it on a “hiding spot” so that when clients wear my Crochet Halter Tops, the labels will not be shown unnecessarily.

Here’s the label attached to one of my handmade scarfs. Beautiful isn’t it? 😉 😉
