Our Simple Baby-Bee Shower At Rashidiya Park Dubai

baby shower is a party attended by friends and family to celebrate the upcoming birth of a new baby and ‘shower’ the mom and dad-to-be with love and good wishes. In my home country (Philippines) nowadays, doing a baby shower is becoming a new trend. It is joyful yet practical. Because a new baby requires so much and can be very costly, the guests pitch in together to provide gifts and other baby accessories from diapers to clothes and blankets.

Usually, food and drinks are served and different kinds of games are played. It is usually during the 6th and 7th month of the mother’s pregnancy. Another purpose of throwing such gathering is to show emotional support for the mother.

Reasons Why You Have To Do A Baby Shower

Since we found out that my husband and I are pregnant, and that we’re going to have our little one real soon, we have decided to throw a simple baby shower to celebrate and welcome our baby with our friends and loved ones.

The Virtual Invitation

I have created a cute little virtual invitation for this celebration through a free site online. Actually, the ‘bee theme’ wasn’t really included in the plan, it just so happened because of this invitation, which I unknowingly made. I used this template for its cuteness.

Our Bee-Themed Baby Shower Virtual Invitation

Last saturday afternoon, February 19, 2022, we held our Bee-themed baby shower at The Rashidiya Family Park in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and invited all our friends and relatives to come and have some fun. We wanted it to happen outdoors in an open area where everybody could be safe from the transmission of COVID considering the pandemic is still going on.

DIY Bee-Themed Materials and Preparation

A week before the baby shower, I have made some DIY projects that we could use to stick up with our theme. First, of course is the banner that could act as the back drop, then, a cute little frame where we could show our baby’s latest scan, a fish bowl with some goodies and chocolates as courtesy to the attendees, and some other baby-bee decorations.

The Food

The food we have offered to the guests were really simple. Since we are outdoors, it should be something that could be eaten easily while sitting on the grass or even while standing, though there were benches inside the park.

We have cooked some Fried Seafood Noodles, Pork Menudo, Grilled Chicken Barbecue, Rice, Cheese Puto, and Cassava. (Though I was just too busy to take pictures of it, really sorry!) All are Filipino foods perfect for us all!

The Baby Shower

It was a perfect sunny morning with some cool breeze. It was really nice to celebrate events in the parks because aside from having an open space, it also offers a beautiful view of the greeneries where kids can play and adults can indulge. Don’t forget the fresh air to breathe in!

Me, my husband and my sister arrived at the park around 10 in the morning, few hours earlier than the call time so we can save our table. As we already know, parks are getting crowded especially in the afternoons. Then, we have started arranging our foods, balloons and other decorations.

And this was how it looked, simple and full of bees… 🙂

The Guests

Our friends have started to arrive at 1 in the afternoon. The baby shower actually served as our reunion too since we haven’t met most of them for a very long time now due to the COVID situation. Good thing, it was actually one of the reasons why we threw a baby shower – to see our friends we haven’t been with for a long long time.

And here they are…

A sunny day with our friends and their kids.
Here are some of our camping mates…
Here are more of our friends…
And, our friend and our baby’s future Ninong (Godfather).

The Gender Reveal

Revealing the gender was so much fun. It could actually be done in so many different ways. And because we were in a family park and we don’t want so much of our trash going everywhere or leave any colorful thing sticking on the floors or grasses, we have decided to do the reveal simply by popping a black balloon. Once popped, there would be some pink or blue confetti inside of it.

And, it’s a bae-bee GIRL!! See you soon our little princess. 🙂

Your mom and dad are so excited to see you!

Opening The Gifts

Well, baby showers wouldn’t be complete without baby gifts of course. And surprisingly, we received a lot from our very thoughtful friends!

One-by-one we opened the gifts with excitement and happiness…

The Gifts

The gifts were overwhelming and very heart warming. We thank our guests for giving us these gifts – gifts that could help us a lot in terms of providing some of our baby’s need for accessories, clothes and other consumables.

Now, we just need to buy a few more. 🙂

The Wishes

I have made this frame to actually serve as a message portal for our guests to our upcoming baby. I totally forgot to tell them to write their messages or wishes to our baby (not for me and my husband) so that when she grew up and able to read, she could read their messages.

Nonetheless, it still turned out really cute – seeing the names of our guests and their messages to our soon to be small family. 🙂

On the picture, by the way, is our daughter when she was 5 months old – when we did our baby shower, I was on my 6th month. She might have grown bigger!

The Takeaway

Having a baby shower is a wonderful way to celebrate and welcome our baby-to-be. So if you’re planning to throw one, don’t get too bogged down preparing for it. In the end, your baby doesn’t need that much stuff.

For us, the baby shower also served as a ‘reunion’ for all our friends whom we haven’t met for such a long time. What matter is that all of you enjoyed this special day. 🙂

Have you also had a baby shower or know somebody who threw one?

Please let us know how it turned out, we are open for fresh ideas because who knows? One of our friends can use it too!
