  • My First Pregnancy Journey

Hello peoples and aspiring mommies! I am happy to share with you my journey about my first pregnancy. On this blog, I will be sharing my full pregnancy experience each week on this blog as well as how I got through it all. I hope this may serve as an inspiration for all the ladies out there hoping to be moms soon.

My First Pregnancy After ‘The Pill’

I’m 28 years old, and yes! I’m finally pregnant after a 6-month wait. My husband and I have been waiting to conceive since the last 6 months after I stopped taking birth control pills. For those who are curious, I have used Depo-Provera Depot Injection for 2 years, then I took Yasmin Pills for the last 7 years, making it a total of 9 years on birth control.

I took Yasmin Pills for the last 7 years.

The reason why I took pills was that, in Dubai, ladies are not allowed to get pregnant without being legally married – if it happens, then it’s either you face jail time or get deported. So when me and my husband arrived in Dubai last 2014, we have decided to use an artificial way for birth control. Then, we got married in 2018 and this year around March 2021, we have decided to start building our own family, so I stopped the pills and tried to regulate my hormones back to normal.

It has been said that taking oral contraceptives can result in a short-term delay in achieving pregnancy of up to 2 to 6 months after stopping taking the pill. Thus, our expectations include some delay on conception which is totally okay with us.

It was no rush, but we prayed for it. 🙂

Trying to Get Pregnant After The Pill

    Monitoring My Cycle

After I stopped taking the pills, I have started a healthy diet right away aside from monitoring my menstrual cycles. During the pills, I’ve been having normal and regular cycles all the time. Regular means I’m having my period for 4 to 5 days within a 28 to 30 day cycle. That being said, it was not a major issue for me with regulating my cycles.

In addition, I love using a mobile app called “My Tracker”, considering the techy lifestyle we have nowadays, this is very functional and user-friendly. You may download it from the Play Store. Through this mobile app, I was able to jot down my periods, monitor my cycle and know when I was most fertile.

    Seed Cycling

Seed cycling involves tracking down my menstrual cycle and eating specific seeds during different days of the cycle, to help ensure optimal levels of estrogen and progesterone when these hormones are present.

I have read that seed cycling takes time to work with your body. It can take at least three months of daily use to start noticing the benefits. So keeping a journal to track your symptoms throughout the month can help you identify the shifts happening over the months.

Seed cycling typically involves eating flax seeds and pumpkin seeds during the first, follicular phase (Days 1-14) of your cycle, when your period starts. Then, you will consume a combo of sesame seeds and sunflower seeds during the second, luteal phase (Days 14-28), or after ovulation.

Its health benefits include helping regulate periods, reducing acne, treating polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, and infertility, and easing symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, and mood swings.

This method was actually introduced to me by a friend. She had PCOS and she got pregnant after few months of trying. I was very hopeful when she told me this, hence, I tried seed cycling for about 4 to 5 months. And I guess, it miraculously worked!

    Folic Acid Supplement

Folic acid, or vitamin B9, is very important for baby’s health and development. It’s important to take a 400 micrograms folic acid tablet every day before you’re pregnant and until you’re 12 weeks pregnant. Folic acid can help prevent birth defects known as neural tube defects, including spina bifida. [mfn] Vitamins, supplements and nutrition in pregnancy – NHS [/mfn]

Right after stopping the pill, I started taking Folic Acid 400mcg Tablet once a day as prescribed by my OB. Taking this medicine while patiently waiting for pregnancy is significantly important for both me and my future unborn child.

I started taking Folic Acid 400mcg Tablet once a day as prescribed by my OB.

Doing the Pregnancy Test At Home

I usually have 28 to 30 day menstrual cycle when I was taking the pills, even after stopping it. And it has been 7 days when I still haven’t got my period though I’m still expecting to have it anytime soon as I was having the same menstrual cramps I normally experience.

It was morning of 2nd of October 2021, 7th day of being delayed, I started to think whether I’m pregnant or not, and if I really am, then I don’t want to hurt my baby by consuming anymore harmful foods or do anything bad. Because of this, I have decided to take the home test first thing in the morning after I woke up. And voila!

    My First Pregnancy Journey

Remember, morning tends to be the best time to take home pregnancy tests, because hCG levels in urine are concentrated after a night without much drinking and peeing.

After learning that I was pregnant, me and my husband went for a short jog because we knew that exercising is very important during pregnancy. Though most of the time, I was very careful so I only walked in a fast pace.

    Confirmatory Beta-HCG Test

It was the same morning, 2nd of October 2021, when we immediately went to the Clinic to do the blood test and confirm the result of the pregnancy test I have done two hours ago at home. The Obstetrician (OB) prescribed to perform a blood test to detect my blood levels of Beta-HCG and it was perfectly normal confirming that I’m definitely pregnant!

    My First Pre-Natal Checkup @ 5 Weeks

We received the blood test result in the evening and the OB asked as to come back for a consultation. It was still the same day 2nd of October 2021 when the Doctor confirmed my pregnancy and that the Beta-HCG levels were fine and also, I was on my 5th week.

    My First Pregnancy Journey

In addition, she prescribed Folic Acid + Vitamin & Minerals Capsule to be taken once daily with food. So I have been taking it religiously everyday knowing it would be good for me and my unborn baby. I also don’t see any serious side effects from it, only that it turns my urine into a more yellowish color.

    My First Pregnancy Journey

    Week 5

It was 4th October 2021, and I have already finished 5 weeks of my first pregnancy. Unexpected but it was an amazing experience.. truly magical!

The symptoms I’ve experienced so far were:

Mild abdominal cramping: I have experienced cramping since the last week, the reason why I was thinking that it was just a normal menstrual cramps, and I thought of having my periods soon. But then, what I was really having was abdominal cramping and I have read from different sources that this is totally normal. I have been experiencing abdominal cramps during the day even in the middle of the night. The only solution I’ve got is applying a little amount of Vicks on a small area on my stomach and drinking lukewarm water. Cramping typically occurs when the uterus expands, causing the ligaments and muscles that support it to stretch. It may be more noticeable when sneezing, coughing or changing positions.

Loose stools. My day isn’t normal without having loose and watery stools which was caused by the fluctuating hormones. Diarrhea occurs as the body produces the hormone relaxin.

Mild Headache. A simple headache in the morning as well as in the evening especially when stuck on a very heavy traffic. Basically, this happens because of both the hormonal changes and increased blood volume.

Fatigue. Usually, I felt tired during the whole day and gets worse on the evenings considering I’m working full-time on morning shift basis and I go home with a huge traffic in the evenings. It has been said that that’s because the body is working overtime to maintain the pregnancy and develop milk-producing glands in the breasts.

Sleepiness. Even after waking up from a long night sleep, I felt sleepy and I understood that again it as because of the hormonal changes.

Excessive thirst. Dubai is a desert and the climate is mostly summer-like for the whole year therefore hydration is very important. I always feel thirsty every now and then so I do sips of water every so often. The body simply needs extra fluids as it supports my baby’s development. [mfn] Excessive Thirst During Pregnancy – TheBump.com [/mfn]

Increased urinary frequency. Since I have to drink lots of liquids due to excessive bouts of thirst, my urinary frequency had significantly increased, which I think the hormones also add up to it. This usually become a huge problem when stuck in the middle of a traffic and I have the urgency to pee. According to Healthline, it’s caused by an increase of the hormones progesterone and human chorionic gonadotropin which are produced in early stages of pregnancy. [mfn] Prenatal Care: Urinary Frequency and Thirst – Healthline [/mfn]

At this moment, I haven’t experienced the dreaded morning sickness yet, that includes nausea and vomiting, but would most likely come soon. I wasn’t looking forward to it, but what to do? All I know, is that I’m both excited and nervous of this first pregnancy. 🙂

    Weeks 6 – 7

On 9th October 2021, I was scheduled for an Ultrasound by my OB since the fertilized embryo can only be seen though scanning by/ after 6 weeks. Unfortunately, my health insurance was on the process of renewal so I have to postpone until the 7th week. For sure, I will be sharing you my results soon. Hoping all is well!

For the last 24 hours from October 8th to 9th, I have been experiencing constipation since I haven’t passed stools at all. I wasn’t feeling the urge or any movement as well. Perhaps, it was probably caused by the foods I ate which were mostly dry. Thus, I decided to cook something with sauce and with hot soup as I was expecting that this will help to soften my stools and help me have a bowel movement. I also tried to eat unripe mangoes which was really helpful by the way and this was the food I always craved for during the last early days of my pregnancy.

Happily, I passed stools the next day and felt better. However after constipation, diarrhea waived Hi! 😀

It has been said that digestive difficulties, such as constipation and diarrhea, may occur frequently during pregnancy due to the shifting hormones, changes in diet, and added stress. Diarrhea during pregnancy is common. However, just because you have diarrhea doesn’t necessarily mean it’s directly related to your pregnancy. [mfn] Diarrhea and Pregnancy: Causes & Remedies – Healthline [/mfn]

But of course, each pregnant person’s experience will be different.

“You are pregnant and you are powerful. You are bold and you are beautiful. Go forward in your boldness, in your beauty and in your contentedness.”

    Week 8 (Month 2)

Exhaustion won’t stop especially in the morning, even after waking up, and in the afternoons. I guess the baby is really taking up my energy which he needs in order to grow.

On 20th October 2021, we had our first Ultrasound. The feeling was wonderful and extraordinary seeing that little ‘blip’ (embryo) growing inside me. It’s my first pregnancy and it’s quite fulfilling to know that gladly everything is fine. I and my husband were not fully convinced that I was pregnant before taking the Ultrasound even after the series of Blood and Urine Tests which were already done on my Week 5. After the scan, we have finally come into our senses that this pregnancy is true and that we are really having a little one soon!

It was really cute! So small, you can’ still see the face or any of its body parts. It’s such a wonderful gift from God.

And below is what my Ultrasound Report from which I have learned the baby’s Estimated Gestational Age (EGA) and my Estimated Date of Delivery (EDD).

Ultrasound Report at 8 Weeks Pregnancy

    Weeks 9 – 11

On these consecutive weeks, I felt the same – exhaustion and sleepiness during the whole day, hunger pangs, headache, nausea and migraine, alternating diarrhea and constipation, bloatedness and abdominal cramping same as dysmenorrhea but usually goes right away; as well as flu-like symptoms such as blocked nose, dry mouth, teary eyes and I also sneeze frequently. After experiencing all these, I still feel lucky that I don’t have the vomiting part yet. Yes, I do feel nauseous at times, but I don’t feel like I would want to vomit or expel anything I have eaten. So really, cheers to that! 😊

“The pain you feel today will be the strength you feel tomorrow.”

    Week 12 (Month 3)

On 16th November 2021, we had our 2nd Ultrasound. At this time, the baby got unexpectedly bigger, and me and my husband were really shocked, perhaps the reason why I got all those difficult symptoms recently.

We were able to see the baby on the monitor and hear its heartbeat. It’s so alive and there was too much kicking, it even looked somersaulting inside my womb. The feeling was inexplicably wonderful.

The Doctor said everything is fine and nothing to worry about. All the cramps and other symptoms I was feeling were all normal. The gender is yet to be identified soon perhaps after few more weeks.

So here we are, patiently waiting not only for the gender but also hoping that everything will be fine, that our baby will grow normally and healthy so we can welcome him/her in the near future. In any way, we are very grateful for him/her to become part of our small family. 🙂

Ultrasound Scan at 12 Weeks Pregnancy

Ultrasound Scan at 12 Weeks Pregnancy

Ultrasound Report at 12 Weeks Pregnancy

    Week 13

This week is still the same as the previous ones. Same headache, fatigue, and sleepiness all day long. I have as well started taking Calcium Vitamins as prescribed by my OB. It contains below components:

    • Calcium (as calcium carbonate) 500 mg
    • Vitamin D3 (as cholecalciferol) 400 IU

It is normally prescribed for pregnant women to prevent calcium deficiency and other complications such as gestational diabetes, preterm birth and infection. The usual dosage is one capsule daily after meals, either after breakfast or after lunch.

Carbocal D400 (Calcium & Vitamin D) Vitamin prescribed by my OB starting week 13 of pregnancy.

    Week 14 – 15 (The start of 2nd Trimester)

This week has been very good to me, the headache and nausea that I have been feeling for the last few weeks had subside. Days are better now. Previously, my headache always starts after I eat my breakfast and it lasts until I go to sleep at night, but now, the severe headache was gone. It was not totally gone, yet at least its better now.

Considering I’m technically on my 2nd trimester now, I’m hoping it will get better each day.

However, this week made my butt to ache really hard! As you know, I have a full-time desk job that makes me constantly sitting all day for 9 hours. Even if I want to avoid sitting, but I can’t, I don’t have much choice.

Then of course, I researched my condition and found out that I am experiencing tailbone (coccyx) pain which is totally normal during pregnancy.

Tailbone or coccyx pain started on my week 14 of pregnancy due to prolonged sitting.

What is tailbone or coccyx pain?

Based on my online research, tailbone pain or coccyx pain is often caused by the pelvic ligaments loosening and shifting. It can be caused by a degenerative joint disease, trauma or vaginal birth.

It can also occur at any time during pregnancy due to increase in body weight. In addition, the body releases a hormone called relaxin that makes the pelvic ligaments looser and more flexible to make room for the baby to grow and enable you to give birth.

As for my daily experience, the pain is worse when sitting or when rising from a sitting position on a chair.

How can you manage your coccyx pain?

    •  Ice/heat pack on your tailbone region
    •  Avoid slumping postures
    •  Self massage to your gluts and back muscles

But, for me, the best thing I can do for now, is to purchase perfect pillow that I can put on my chair to sit on. Something that could act as a cushion to relieve the pressure on my tailbone.

Hence, I have decided to buy one online and I am yet to receive it next week and it is called ‘Memory Foam Seat Cushion‘. I would surely make a separate review on this once I have tried it. I’m hoping it’s worth my money! 🙂

“Being pregnant means every day is another day closer to meeting the other love of my life.”

    Week 16 – 17 (Month 4)

On 17th December 2021, we had our routine check-up. The doctor said everything was fine from the previously performed examinations such as the Ultrasound and Blood Test. Therefore, further tests at this time is not really required.

The Doctor also mentioned that they have done PAPP-A Test. As far as I could understand about this test, the PAPP-A, NT and HCG markers are used together with the mother’s age to estimate the likelihood of having a pregnancy affected with Down syndrome. [mfn] Serum PAPP-A measurements in first-trimester screening for Down syndrome [/mfn] In addition, they have used blood sample to conduct the test.

Maternal Screen for HCG and PAPP-A Markers

    PAPP-A Result on 1st Trimester
    Risk Assessment: Screen Negative For
    Down’s Syndrome, Edward’s Syndrome & Pataus Syndrome
    PAPP-A Result on 1st Trimester

I was really glad that we have tests like this to measure the probability of the occurrence of some important abnormalities. Though it has been said that it can be less than 100% accurate, I still believe on the accuracy of these results based on statistical data.

I can say that I wasn’t fully aware of all the advantages of technological advancement on our daily lives until now. Nevertheless, we are really happy about how the results turned out. This is something that could give us some peace of mind out of the worries we have about this whole pregnancy journey.

    Week 18 – 19

Bad news… I and my husband got positive with the COVID virus. 🙁

Well, I think this was the scariest part of my pregnancy that I hope will not happen again.

My husband got sick on 31st of December, and yes, it was New Year’s Eve. Imagine, we watched the Burj Khalifa fireworks on TV while lying on bed because he wasn’t really feeling well. We thought it was just another cold spell because of the cold weather in Dubai so he didn’t isolate. But Thanks God, we were only 2 persons inside the room.

He had cough, colds and on-and-off high-grade fever for 3 days. Then on his 3rd day of sickness, I started feeling sick too. It started with a very heavy headache in the morning, and in the afternoon, I felt severe exhaustion, that ended with a fever in the evening.

    My First Pregnancy Journey

The next day, we went to my OB for a check-up who recommended us to take the PCR Test, which we did immediately on the next day. 24 hours after performing the test, we got the result and sadly, we are both COVID positive. The OB also prescribed medications for me to take, it includes Paracetamol 500mg Tablet, an antibiotic and a cough syrup. However due to my anxiety of taking such medicines, I only took the Paracetamol for a very short period of time – only when I had the fever since the OB told us that we need to lower it down.

We were really scared about my fever and how it could affect our unborn baby. Also, skeptical on how we got the virus and I tried to blame him and myself for acquiring it. We should have been very careful, but I guess, it’s unavoidable.

According to my research, the overall risk of COVID-19 to pregnant women is low. However, women who are pregnant or were recently pregnant are at increased risk for severe illness with COVID-19 . Severe illness means hospitalization might be needed, requiring intensive care or be placed on a ventilator to help with breathing. [mfn] Pregnancy and COVID-19: What are the risks? – Mayo Clinic [mfn]

Based on this, and what my OB said over the phone when I broke the bad news to her, COVID would not negatively nor severely affect our baby. I also had a chat with few pregnant moms, as well as those who had already given birth, who acquired the COVID virus and they said that they were fine, they even got worse symptoms and fever up to 41 degrees Celsius, but they sure were fine. Their babies are doing great too as evidenced by outstanding results from their monthly checkups. This enlightenment totally calmed me and my husband; it helped to clear our worries away.

I was just thankful that I’ve had my fever for just one night and it didn’t go higher than 38.6 degrees Celsius. Along with this, I’ve also had cough and colds. We were very thankful that our symptoms were mild – that’s why we believe it was the new Omicron Variant that was rampant on the news. We only got fever, cough and colds, and that’s it.

Moreover, we did the quarantine period and finished it. However, after re-testing on the 10th day, I still got positive, though my husband was negative and that I was feeling better with no more signs of COVID symptoms. After few days, I went back to work as if nothing happened. 🙂

    My First Pregnancy Journey

Just to make sure it will not happen again and for those who haven’t acquired the virus, especially those who aren’t vaccinated, please be careful and take care of yourselves. Always sanitize and protect yourselves by wearing protective medical devices.

If you’re wondering about my vaccination, I got two doses of Sinopharm last year around February 2021 and I haven’t decided to get a booster dose, probably after I’ve given birth. My husband got the same thing but he would take the booster shot soon (a booster shot is given to previously COVID positive patient only after a month).

    Week 20 – 23 (Month 5)

On 16th January 2022, we went for my monthly routine check-up and we did our 3rd ultrasound, blood test and urine test. The scan was quite special since it was done to detect any Fetal Anomaly or abnormalities.

I was excited yet anxious because that day we would be able to determine the baby’s gender as well as any abnormalities present on his anatomical and physiological structures.

Fortunately, and thanks God, everything’s fine with our baby. Below our ultrasound shot showing different parts of the baby’s organs including the cerebellum (a major part of the brain), 4-chamber heart, orbits, kidneys, upper and lower extremities as well as the umbilical cord. The ultrasound Doctor said there were no abnormalities present, the baby is developing progressively as per gestational age and that we should not worry.

    Gender Reveal

Doctor: Everything is fine. The baby is doing great.

Me: Thank you Doctor! The baby looks like a girl?! **in a cynical tone**

    Doctor: How did you know?

    Me: I saw.. haha! 🙂

    Doctor: Yes, it’s a girl!

Given my medical knowledge from being an RN, I can’t stop myself but to guess the baby’s gender. And because of the absence of a small little penis, I anticipate that it was a girl, and I was right!

Apparently, I was anticipating a boy while my husband wanted a girl. Even our families and friends were skeptical about the gender too. But here’s to conclude the baby’s gender:

    My First Pregnancy Journey

Our families were so delighted and excited for their upcoming princess!!

    My First Pregnancy Journey

But shoooosh!! We haven’t told our friends because we would probably throw a small baby shower soon. 🙂

And here she is, moving, kicking, somersaulting, and by the way, her kicks were getting stronger day by day. This time, my husband could feel it too! He uses the palm of his hand to feel her movement. He talks and listens to the baby everyday, waiting for her to make a sound, but oh, she just kicked! 🙂

Ultrasound (Fetal Anomaly) Scan at 20 weeks

“God gives us only what we can handle. Apparently God thinks I’m a badass.”

    Week 24 – 27 (Month 6)

    My First Pregnancy Journey

We had our monthly check-up last 12th February 2022 and I gave my blood and urine samples for analysis. Everything went out fine except for my Hemoglobin levels, which significantly reduced since my last test, and now, it’s totally below the normal.

I have read that a slight drop on hemoglobin levels during pregnancy is quite common, however, if it will be as low as mine (which was 9.7 g/dL) then some actions will be required to do. As what my doctor said, if my hemoglobin levels will not normalize until my next checkup, then she would have to prescribe me an Iron Vitamin to be administered through injection.

So, as much as possible, I’m trying to eat foods that could boost this blood level in additional to doubling my dose of Iron supplements. Foods such as lean meat, tofu, green leafy vegetables and other iron-rich foods are what I’m indulging right now to hopefully achieve my goal.

Laboratory Test Result at 24 Weeks Pregnancy

These last few weeks have been wonderful for us – for me and my husband. Our unborn baby has been reacting to music and voices, so when my husband speaks to her, she would kick a lot. I could even figure her sleep-wake cycle as she kicks when she’s awake and that would be around 7 am, 12 noon, 5pm, 10pm, 5am when she kicks powerfully and actively.

The feeling was surreal! I feel perplexed every time she does this inside my womb. Sometimes, I don’t know if she’s kicking, somersaulting or even swimming. 🙂

    My First Pregnancy Journey

Moreover, I believe I have been experiencing cramps which are referred to as the “Braxton Hicks Contractions” or false labor or practice contractions. These are commonly experienced between 20th to 37th weeks of pregnancy which is a normal part of pregnancy. It occurs at irregular intervals and the intensity is variable.

As for me, I usually feel these false labor contractions after eating and worsened by doing a full-time desk job for 9 hours a day. Sitting all day having very less movement at all, in my opinion, is what is triggering these contractions for me. At first, I was scared that these cramping might be preterm labor and that I might deliver my baby soon.

Even though online articles are stating that this is normal, I would still need to discuss this with my doctor on our next consultation this coming weekend! 🙂

Also, last 19th February 2022, we had our simple bee-themed baby shower with our friends and relatives. It was fun and heartwarming, knowing there are so many other people who would want to welcome our baby with us!

Check out my blog here: Our Simple Baby-Bee Shower At Rashidiya Park Dubai

    Week 28 – 31 (Month 7)

This month is a long month full of excitement and surprises. Our baby is making us happy even if she’s not born yet! Her kicks and movements are becoming stronger each day. I was planning to do a ‘kick counting’ but I guess it wouldn’t be possible not only because I have a full-time office job but also because her movements are a lot to count. But it’s okay, as I know that the more active she is, the healthier she can be!

As for my maternal situation, my belly has grown a lot, my belly button has started to flatten out, my urination has become more frequent especially at night, and my tailbone pain had gradually worsen. Again, it’s okay, I know it’s all part of becoming a mother yet I’m grateful for not still not having worse symptoms like nausea and vomiting. I don’t know how I could drive a car with it!

    Week 32 – 33 (Month 8)

Surprisingly, I still didn’t get the dreadful stretchmarks on my belly. Hmm.. I’m glad though I’m still wondering when it would start to appear.

Last 9th April 2022, we had our routine consultation with my OB. She recommended us to perform CBC, Fasting Blood Sugar Test, Urinalysis and Ultrasound to check the baby’s growth and development as well as her its blood flow.

Below are the results of my blood test. My sugar level is good, however, my Hemoglobin level was lower than the previous one.

Fasting Blood Sugar at Month 8

As a result of having low hemoglobin levels despite of religiously taking my Iron supplements twice daily, my OB prescribed me to take Iron through injection or infusion. I’m not yet sure which type of Iron vitamin it would be, but I’ll be happy to share it once I’ve taken it this week.

    CBC at Month 8

Moreover, we will do the ultrasound scan soon and I’ll be sharing here the details too!

We are hoping that the baby is perfectly fine even with my low hemoglobin levels. As of now, her kicks are even stronger than before – that her kicks sometimes surprises and hurts me for a very short period of time. Her movements also wake me up at night, that’s how strong she’s becoming! …and we’re truly glad for that! 🙂

    Week 34 – 35 (Month 8)

Due to my low hemoglobin levels, my OB prescribed me to have Iron Vitamin through intravenous infusion. She recommended me to have five doses to be taken in alternative days.

After taking the first two doses, when she saw my below Blood Test report, she insisted to stop the Iron vitamins. She said my Iron levels were now normal and the Iron infusion is no longer needed. Therefore, it was discontinued. Well, I was glad because those infusions were a bit painful and time-consuming. And also, it was really great to know that my iron levels were in normal range.

    Iron Levels at Month 8

Last 23rd April 2022, we’ve had our 3rd Trimester Ultrasound Scan which was required by my OB to have clear picture of the baby’s growth and development as well as to see any abnormalities with the baby’s blood flow.

Third Trimester Ultrasound at Month 8

Third Trimester Ultrasound at Month 8

Gladly, everything is fine with our baby. She is growing normally as per her gestational age and she’s quite healthy eager to see the world outside the womb. Also, based on our last Ultrasound, my new Estimated Delivery Date (EDD) will be on 27th of May.

    Vaginal Swab at Month 8

Lastly, my OB performed a vaginal swab to check for infection and above was the result. Even though, there was moderate growth detected on the test, I decided to not take any medications as I’m really trying to avoid to take anything that I think might negatively affect my baby. Instead, I have taken some fresh fruit juices to prevent the infection from worsening such as coconut and cranberry juice. Other than this test result, I didn’t have any other symptoms such as pain during urination or any other kinds of pain. So I suspect this doesn’t have do anything with urinary tract infections (UTI).

    Week 36 – 37 (Month 9)

Starting this week, we have decided to do our check-ups in the hospital where we’ve chosen to give birth and deliver our baby, which is the International Modern Hospital located in Al Mankhool, Dubai. Every appointment, my OB performs an ultrasound to check the baby’s position. And so far, everything is fine as she have mentioned. No further tests were required during this time but the doctor instructed me to do the following things in order to soften my cervix and help me to have a better labour experience.

    1. Walk more, which I’m already doing at least every day and especially during the weekends.
    2. Exercise using a birthing ball, which I have also started doing since week 34 as far as I remember. I watch YouTube for videos on how to use this ball to exercise, stretch and alleviate back pain as well as to induce labour naturally.
    3. Do squats, which I do every time I’m at work whenever I have time and at home.
    4. Drink Raspberry Leaf Tea three times a day, which was fine for me as I’m used to drinking tea so the taste wasn’t that much of a problem. It also helped me to relieve constipation that I kept on having during my 2nd trimester. My bowels are now better and are expelled daily unlike before.
    5. Drink Pineapple Juice which I buy from grocery stores canned since I couldn’t find the fresh ones. Hope it still works though.
    6. Go up and down the stairs, so I usually do this everyday where I go up to the 5th floor and down and repeat for 2 times. It’s exhausting but if it’s for me and the baby then it’s worth sweating it.

Working hard in preparation for my delivery soon is important especially since we want to deliver as natural as possible. I personally do not prefer to have a Cesarean section as I know that it would be more difficult for me giving birth and the recovery will be longer too. But whatever happens, at least I can say that I tried everything to make the delivery easier for both me and my baby.

    Week 38 (Month 9)

Since my 36th week of pregnancy, we visit the doctor every week until now. And this time she asked us to do Cardiotocography (CTG) to monitor the baby’s heart rate and movements. It lasts for about 30 minutes and done by putting probes on my belly while I was lying down.

Fortunately, everything is normal, the baby performed well (I silently asked my baby to please move during the process and be active), Haha and I guess it worked!

During our checkup for this week, the doctor also did a membrane sweep.

According to BabyCenter.com, membrane stripping, also known as a membrane sweep, is a procedure done to help induce labor. The practitioner inserts a finger through the cervix and manually separates the amniotic sac from the uterine lining. It can be uncomfortable or even painful, but it only lasts a few minutes. [mfn] Membrane stripping: How it’s done and what it’s like [/mfn]

As for me, the membrane sweep was somewhat like an Internal Examination and it was both uncomfortable and a bit painful. Afterwards, I’ve had a very light spotting which was brownish red in color in a very less amount. There was still slight pain after the procedure but it was tolerable and I could still walk as normal.

The membrane sweep was exactly done when I was 38w1d and after 2 days when I was 38w3d, some part (if not all) of my mucus plug came out when I woke up in the morning. And yes, it might be a sign that I will be on labor soon.

All in all, I’m thankful that I didn’t have any problems with my pregnancy and it was considered as low risk. I could only complain about my tailbone/ coccyx pain which I’ve started discussing during Week 14 – 15 (2nd Trimester) since it got worse now and sitting has become my #1 enemy… 🙁

By the way, during this time, I’m still working in the office full-time though I stopped driving the car as a safety precaution, so my husband drops me to the nearest bus station in the morning and picks me up directly from work after my duty.

For now, I’m still waiting for the next signs that I’m having labor which can happen soon. I haven’t had any bloody show nor true labor contractions. Anyhow, I’m trying to be more patient though we can’t wait to meet our little girl!

    Week 39 (9th Month)

Last 29th of May 2022, we had our check-up with my OB. And for the second time, she again did membrane sweeping but this time, it was more painful. The procedure lasted for just a few seconds yet the pain remained until the night of the same day. After having this procedure, I still didn’t notice any changes on my body aside from having the usual Braxton-Hicks contractions and slight spotting.

My OB asked us to see her again on the 2nd of June, which would be after the next 3 days, to recheck the status of my cervix, if it has gone better – effaced or thinned. Also, she mentioned that my due date is on 4th of June, so on our next visit, we will be discussing about scheduling my delivery by 3rd or 4th of June.

This actually put stress on me as I don’t prefer Cesarean delivery or even medically-induced. The pain I was already feeling that day added on this stress, thus I became emotional and cried.

For now, I’m hoping my baby will come out soon and that labor will also start before our next consultation. The sweeping is truly painful and my OB might repeat doing it on our next meeting. 🙁

    Week 39 (Plus 5 Days)

On 2nd of June 2022 at 4:28 am, I have finally delivered to a healthy baby girl. 🙂

I will be sharing my Labor and Delivery experience on a separate blog which I will be linking here soon!

Thank you for being with me on this journey!! 🙂

  • 16 Reasons Why Camping Is Good For Your Health

Whether you enjoy biking, hunting or any other outdoor activities, camping offers you a way to focus completely on a hobby for a few days without external distractions.

When you’re spending time at home in your usual routine, you may not realize just how much you’re missing away from nature. When was the last time you slept late without an alarm clock to wake you up? When you’re camping, the only alarm clocks you have are the sun and the chirping of birds. Waking up with nature rather than an alarm clock is an experience everyone should have regularly.

What you might not realize is that camping can also help you live a longer, healthier life. Here are are just a few reasons to ditch it all for a few days and go camping.

    1. Reduced Stress

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'

When you’re camping, there’s no place to be at a certain time, nothing is interrupting you or competing for your attention. You are typically away from work pressure, traffic and the rush of city life.

All these are replaced by the calming effect of bird song, the sound of waves crashing on the beach and the wind in the trees which are much more much more therapeutic than anything you’ll find on your MP3.

The natural outcome of this type of setting is stress reduction and relaxation like you can’t find anywhere else. The lack of stress is related to the rise in oxygen levels, higher levels of serotonin and managed levels of melatonin.

Researchers found that walking for few minutes in nature can reduce depressive symptoms, which is common in people who live in the cities. [mfn] https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/abs/10.1089/eco.2014.0027 [/mfn] In addition, another research found that spending time outdoors can help reduce rumination, which is the obsessive, negative thinking that could potentially lead to mental health issues. 2. Fresh Air

    @Saraya, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE

You may not be aware how scarce fresh air is in your day to day life. When you go camping, you get the wondrous scents of the outdoors, as well as the smell of a delicious dinner cooking over an open fire.

    3. Strengthens Relationships

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'

When you go camping with friends or family, you get a chance to converse without the interference of modern devices like smartphones and tablets, even late into the night.

Through this setup, everyone is able to communicate more directly and give and receive eye contact. Moreover, having to depend on each other to prepare food and look after your campsite builds camaraderie, a sense of community and shared purpose that adds to your well-being.

    4. Inspires A Sense of Awe

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'
@Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE

As human beings, we are meant to wonder and feel compelled to stop and soak up the sunset or gaze up at the stars — and there’s no better place to do that than camping in the boondocks. Research even suggests that awe-inspiring or breathtaking moments can make us happier and more imaginative. [mfn] http://emotion.caltech.edu/dropbox/bi133/files/keltner.approaching-awe.pdf [/mfn]

    5. Promotes Autonomy and Adventure

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'

Camping encourages freedom to find our own adventures without limits. This sense of freedom is rarely found in our daily lives, whether through work pressure or household chores.

Thus, sleeping outside under the stars in a very quiet night is like pressing the reset button; we become more present to what is around us while our thoughts being pulled away from the strains of modern life.

    6. Improves Memory

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'

When you’re out camping and surrounded by trees and fresh air, your body releases higher levels of serotonin, a naturally-produced neurotransmitter that helps regulate your mood, appetite, and sleep. Serotonin also improves cognitive functions such as memory and learning.

    7. A Good Night’s Sleep

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'
    @Saraya, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE

Melatonin is a natural hormone that helps control our sleep-wake cycle. Working in an office for long periods under an artificial light source such as incandescent bulbs may significantly lower your melatonin levels.

In the contrary, camping outside exposes you to natural melatoninfriendly yellow light during sunrise and sunset, which can help you achieve a more balanced sleep-wake cycle.

According to a 2013 study, the more you abide by the sun’s schedule the more likely you are to go to bed and wake up at a reasonable time. Researchers examined campers for a week and found that sleeping away from artificial light helped reset their circadian rhythms or internal body clocks and made them less groggy. 8. Good Food

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'
    @Saraya, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE

Food just tastes better when prepared outdoors. There’s something about cooking food over a campfire or a campsite grill that just can’t be replicated by home-cooked meal. Besides, nothing beats s’mores [mfn] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%27more [/mfn] made over an open fire. Also, if you’re fond of eating roasted fish, vegetables and other meat products, you would likely consume a large amount of protein and healthy fats on your camping trip.

    9. Boosts Vitamin D

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'
    @Saraya, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE

Sunshine is great for your skin. A huge amount of it is being absorbed by your body while being outdoors. Physically, it provides a healthful glow while internally, the body uses it to absorb calcium and phosphorus – two essential minerals promoting healthy bones and teeth.

    10. Physical Fitness

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'

At home, we often have sedentary lifestyle but when you are camping, you can not help but to engage in physical activities and get your heart rate up. Either by setting up a tent, gathering firewood or going for a hike, you are burning more calories than you would burn sitting around your office. It significantly helps to keep you r heart and lungs healthy.

Surely, your activity levels will vary, but hikers burn anywhere from 120-300 calories per hour. Bikers burn 300-500 calories per hour, and fly fishing can burn up to 200 calories per hour. No wonder you work up such an appetite during a long camping trip. [mfn] https://www.greenbelly.co/pages/how-many-calories-do-i-burn-backpacking [/mfn]

    11. Digital Detox

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'
    @Saraya, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE

Camping is a great way for everyone to totally unplug and get away from their screens, sometimes you just need to shut off cyberspace and connect to some green space. In the great outdoors, you don’t find computers, tablets or televisions and there’s so much else to do that does not require electronics.

Ditching your digital screens can have a significant impact on your well-being. Research suggests that excessive use of these gadgets may lead to increased feelings of anxiety, low self esteem and poor sleep. [mfn] https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/full/10.1089/cyber.2012.0125 [/mfn] [mfn] https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0191886915000847 [/mfn] Even worse, it begins to rewire our brains to make us less adept at real connection.

Camping gives you the opportunity to think away from screen full of distractions so you can return to reality with a clear mind — and that alone is priceless.

    12. New Challenges

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'

No two camping trips are exactly the same, and that’s a good thing. New experiences help to keep brains healthy. Activities that are both physically and intellectually stimulating have the greatest effect on brain health, and camping fits both of these criteria. [mfn] https://www.helpguide.org/articles/healthy-living/how-to-improve-your-memory.htm [/mfn] [mfn] https://www.healthline.com/health-news/heres-how-to-keep-your-brain-healthy-as-you-age [/mfn]

    13. Meditation

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'

When you’re camping, you get a chance to get in touch with nature, encounter wildlife and see the stars away from the bright lights of the big city. Also, don’t forget to turn off your cell phone. Leave the tablet and the laptop computer at home. Try to disconnect for a few days and enjoy the simplicity of the natural experience. This is one of the simplest ways to get the health benefits of meditation.

The Mayo Clinic suggests that meditation may improve a number of serious medical conditions by increasing self awareness and giving a person stress-reduction tools. [mfn] https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/meditation/in-depth/meditation/art-20045858 [/mfn]

Don’t forget to commit to the experience. If your phone is off, you are one way towards developing a stimulating, tranquil hobby that will keep you healthy for years to come.

    14. Connection To Nature

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'
    @Saraya, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE

When you’re camping, you get a chance to get in touch with nature, encounter wildlife and see the stars away from the bright lights of the big city. There’s nothing quite like it. Make sure you and your family have the chance to connect with nature when you explore the many benefits of camping.

    15. Development of New Skills

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'
    @Saraya, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE

Surely, you will develop new skills while camping. Everyone on the trip will contribute and it is indeed a great chance to learn new things. You may learn how to set up tents, tie knots, start fires, cook a new meal and more. These skills are important to have, and yet we don’t often get a chance to develop them during the course of our regular busy schedules.

    16. Great Time For Kids

Rich results on Goole's SERP when searching for 'camping' or 'benefits of camping'

For kids, time spent camping is time spent learning, which is one of the reasons scouting programs are so valuable. They facilitate camping experiences that are built around kids learning new things, including fishing, cooking, hiking, tying knots, fire-starting, safety, first aid and much more.

Furthermore, it is important for children to gradually become more independent and confident in their own capabilities. Camping allows them to learn independence in a safe and controlled environment. Children become more confident as they learn new things and have first-time experiences.

Camping is beneficial for children and their families because it can help strengthen bonds between family members. You will all return home feeling much stronger as a group.

    Author’s Notes

Winter season is quite an extraordinary season especially when you are staying in a tropical country or somewhere in the Middle East just like me. It is a MUST for us to spend some time outdoors to breath fresh air and enjoy this season as we can only experience it for few months every year, as you know, summer climate here is excruciating. We love to go in groups during the weekends and long holidays and we usually build our camps further away from the city somewhere near the mountains or secluded beach areas.

Camping is our way to reconnect with nature and have a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is also our mode to unplug and detoxify ourselves from all the tension we have acquired from our everyday responsibilities. I am truly hoping that this generation, especially the younger ones, despite the progressive technological development, will be aware of the benefits this activity can provide not only to our health but also to our skills and values. May they continue to explore and make wonderful memories through a day in the lap of nature.

  • How The Samsung Health App Helps With My Daily Morning Run

Samsung offers a lot of tools, many of which you probably just ignore. Health is one of the tools you should probably take a closer look at because it’s actually really useful.

Samsung Health (originally S Health) is a free mobile application developed by Samsung that serves to track various aspects of daily life contributing to health and wellness.

I can say that, personally, this is significantly useful for my health and well-being since it is more than just a glorified step or calorie tracker. It can track your weight, calorie intake, calorie burn, steps, runs, heart rate, stress levels, caffeine intake, blood pressure, sleep, blood glucose, bike rides, hikes, and a lot more.

The intuitive charts, helpful tips and physical exercise programs will guide you to achieve your fitness and diet goals. You may also manage your fitness activities, track your weight and monitor your diet using Samsung Galaxy and Watch devices.

In this article, I will be discussing how this mobile application helped me monitor my health status anywhere and anytime.

    The Samsung Health Main Page

Samsung Health’s main page is where you’ll start with the app, as well as where you’ll likely spend most of your time. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but you’ll get used to it quickly.

    It generally looks like this:

The first category on the top shows the Step Tracker.

As for my tracker, it says I’ve done 7,209 steps on May 11 exceeding my 6,000 step target (which is customizable). Honestly, the number of steps I’ve been performing these days were much lower than before due to the quarantine period, but usually, during working days, my step tracker exceeds 10,000 often times. For me, I can say, it’s quite high because I commute for an hour going to work while using the public transport.

It can be tracked daily, weekly or monthly showing the average number of steps, average distance, calories burned as well as steps at a healthy pace.

The second category shows the Active Time.

By pressing it, the screen below will appear showing the average time of activity for the whole day. Aside from that, it will show the amount of calories burned and distance covered by the activities performed – in my case, walking and running.

The third category shows different Exercises.

And this, my dear friends, is what I use for my daily morning workout, specifically the Running exercise.

But if you’re not a fan of running or jogging, there are some other exercises you may prefer such as walking, cycling, aerobics, hiking and swimming. Likewise, other activities which are usually performed inside the gym or fitness centers are available too, such as treadmill, exercise bike, elliptical trainer, weight machines and circuit training.

The sequence on how these exercises appear on your homepage can be customized according to your preference. You may also add more workouts using the button on the right side bottom.

As an example, and please don’t judge! 🙂 … (as I’ve told you, I haven’t been very active since the start of the quarantine period) … here are some of the workouts I did for the last 30 days.

As you can see, there’s only running and walking, which is auto-detected by my smart band (will discuss more about it later). Both comes with specific details such as the duration of exercise, amount of calories burned and distance traveled.

    Isn’t it wonderful yet?!

Following this category are the Food, and then Sleep categories.

Unfortunately, I’ve got nothing to share about my Food intake. But in this, you will be tracking your meals from breakfast, lunch to dinner a well as the morning afternoon and evening snacks.

While for Sleep, these are the data I have.

Sleeping for at least 8 hours every day is very important to me, may it be during weekdays or the weekends. And I can proudly say that, I follow this ritual religiously and meticulously, even during this quarantine period when I’m just working from home.

As shown below, I always go to bed around 10:30 at night (right after I finish one or two Netflix episodes) and wake up after 6:30 in the morning, this is so that I can do my daily morning run.

Also, my sleep wake cycle is being accurately tracked by my smart band. It starts monitoring my sleep whenever there is a sudden reduction on movements.

    Following is the Weight category.

These are my “unofficial” height and weight. I call it unofficial because I’m not sure about what my accurate weight is as of the moment. I must gain some weight due to this lazy quarantine period. But hopefully, my BMI will still be in the normal range.

This app will help you track your weight gains and losses, just you will need to input the information manually. It’s up to your preference! You may update it weekly, monthly or quarterly.

Next, is the Heart Rate category.

There are two ways I can measure my heart rate in order for it to appear in this application. I can either use my smart band or use the Samsung Heart Rate Sensor located at the back of my phone.[mfn] https://www.samsung.com/us/heartratesensor/ [/mfn]

Caution! Do not look directly at the heart rate sensor’s lights. Doing so may impair your vision.

Then, there is the Stress category.

Similar to the Heart Rate, Stress monitor also uses the Samsung Heart Rate Sensor where you will also put your finger, preferably the pointer finger, on the sensor making sure that your finger is at the center of the sensor.

While measuring it, breathe, be calm, don’t press the sensor too hard and remain still and quiet.[mfn] https://www.samsung.com/us/heartratesensor/ [/mfn]

Smoking, alcohol, caffeine and drugs can affect stress measurement. Maybe I’ve had too much coffee that’s why mine is showing “high”.

Deep breathing can help reduce stress. To calm your mind and body, try to exhale for as long or longer than you inhale.

Lastly, are the Water, Caffeine, and Blood Pressure categories.

These are used to track your water and caffeine intake which you have to record manually. Likewise, you will have to update your blood pressure by entering your blood pressure values (systolic and diastolic), pulse rate as well as medications if taking any.

Navigating throughout the app, you will be able to find Weekly Summaries of your activities as shown below.

This is very helpful as you don’t need to accomplish a manual log book just to make sure you are following your health regimen. Instead, you will monitor it accurately, digitally making use of the cutting-edge technology.

Going back to exercises, and as what I’ve said earlier, I love to jog every morning. I have to do it too (nowadays) because our gym was closed since the quarantine have started.

Through the Samsung Health App, I’m able to use the “running” tracker by selecting it on the “Exercise” category.

The Running exercise has been categrized according to your target or preference as follows:

    Pace Target
    – Light Walking Coach (Burn Fat – 30 mins)
    – Brisk Walking Coach (Burn Fat – 50 mins)
    – Light Jogging Coach (Cardio – 30 mins)
    – Light Running Coach (Cardio – 30 mins) **what I usually use**
    – Power Walking Coach (Burn Fat – 40 mins)
    – Calorie Burning Coach (Burn Fat – 60 mins)
    – Endurance Jogging Coach (Cardio – 50 mins)
    – Endurance Running Coach (Cardio – 60 mins)
    – Speed Increasing Coach (Cardio – 40 mins)
    – Speed Endurance Coach (Cardio – 70 mins)

I personally love using the Samsung Health app every time I go for my morning run or even for a short jog. It’s like having an awesome companion, since I usually go alone, through the use of Samsung Health Voice Coach which will guide you throughout your workout (once enabled).[mfn]https://www.samsung.com/hk_en/support/mobile-devices/how-to-install-applications-on-the-galaxy-gear/ [/mfn]

The voice signals you the start and end of the whole workout, even the warm-up and cool down period. It also tells you when to increase your speed so that you will be able to reach a target distance, and it well also tell you to “slow down” or ” run faster” if necessary. This is quite convincing especially when running.[mfn] https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/events/galaxy-virtual-studio/wearables/gear-iconx/fitness-voice-coaching/ [/mfn]

I know that for some, running or jogging is quite a boring exercise as you are just doing the same thing over a period of time. But I assure you, this Voice Coach will encourage you to workout even if you’re already exhausted and short of breath, and most importantly, it will help you finish your goal.

Here are some samples of my “Light Running Coach” data as a result of a short 30-minute run. Cool, isn’t it?!

All the details you need are here – location, weather, date, time, duration, distance and average speed. What more could you ask for? 🙂

    The Together Page

If the main page is all about tracking your individual stats, the “Together Page” is all about comparing your steps and whatnot to literally everyone else.

Here, you can compete with your friends and check your ranking once your Samsung account is registered.

If you like the idea of making a game of your steps, then you’ll like this page. It’s really just harmless fun, another way to motivate you to take more steps. You can opt into global challenges and the like to push yourself a little bit more.

Or, like me, you can just check once in a while or ignore this page altogether. 🙂

    The Accessories

If you’re in the market for a new wearable, sensor, blood pressure monitor, glucose meter, heart rate sensor, or scale and want to make sure it’s compatible with Health, this is the menu for you.

This takes all the accessories that are compatible with Samsung Health and breaks them down into categories, making it easy for you to find exactly what you’re looking for. It’s definitely not necessary that you run out and get new accessories just because you start using the Health app, but if you need a particular kind of monitor or device anyway, why not get a compatible one?

As for me, and as you can see below, I’m using the Samsung Galaxy Fit Band and I wear it 24/7. I only remove it when I need to charge it. It is a good device too, I can say, aside from being water-proof it is also lightweight and durable.[mfn] https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/wearables/galaxy-fit/ [/mfn]

Through the Samsung Health App, you’ve got lots of things to do. Aside from above mentioned, you may also check daily health news of your preference with customized news feed. Aimed to keep your body strong and healthy with tips offered by health professionals. (Available in some countries only)

Dubai Garden Glow is a unique recreational park located in Zabeel Park, it is the perfect family destination for everyone visiting Dubai.

The park includes glow garden, dinosaur park and magic park. Glow garden has lit structures placed in a large park so you can enjoy this at the night.

    Dubai Garden Glow is open:

    • Sunday to Friday – 5 PM to 11 PM
    • Saturday & National Holidays – 5 PM to 12 Midnight

However, as per their bulletin, the theme park is now closed starting from 17th July 2023; and it will reopen on September 2023 with new experiences and more captivating theme. [mfn] Dubai Garden Glow [/mfn]

    How To Get There

Address: Zabeel Park, Gate 6 & Gate 7, Area – B, Dubai, UAE

    By Bus

From the Dubai Dolphinarium, you can catch a bus from the Grand Hyatt Hotel bus stop, which is about 1.5 km from Dubai Dolphinarium. Then, ride the bus to Max Metro Bus Stop Seaside. From here, you can reach Garden Glow after a short 20-minute walk. This is certainly a good option if you are on a budget and also want to experience the city’s public transit like a true local. The travel time will be around 50 minutes.

    By Metro

To get to Dubai Garden Glow from Dubai Dolphinarium, you can ride the Green Line Metro from Dubai Healthcare City Metro Station 2, which is a 13-minute walk away from the Dolphinarium.

After riding the train to BurJuman Metro Station 2, switch on to the Red Line and ride the metro to Max Metro Station 2. From here, the gates for Garden Glow Dubai are about 20 minutes of walking distance. The entire journey will take around 44 minutes with the majority of it being on foot. This will allow you to take in the sights at a leisurely pace and witness Dubai like a local.

    By Self-Drive

If you’re an experienced driver, then you may opt for driving yourself or with your friends directly to the Dubai Garden Glow which is located on Zabeel Park, Gate 6 & Gate 7, Area – B, Dubai.

For us, we visited on a Friday night and it was a smooth drive without any traffic. You may want to visit during the weekday so that less visitors will be around. The less people, the better your pictures will be! 😁

    Booking The Tickets

We booked our tickets from Klook last 19th of May 2023. The ticket costs AED 60 ($16.30) per adult, but after discount from Klook, it was AED 54 ($14.70). Tickets are free for children below 3 years old, so my daughter at that time, was entrance-free.

Our ticket was only valid for entering the Garden Glow and Dinosaur Park, while there was a separate fee for the Magic Park.

It was a hassle-free booking since you just have to book it online, even during the same day.

    Our Experience

Visiting the Dubai Garden Glow was a great experience especially for my daughter who loves to see colorful lights. Becca was so amused with all the blinking rainbow lights forming flowers and other different structures.

Just like this Flower Valley, as if all the flowers were in full bloom even during the night. The colors are really enchanting!

We enjoyed strolling through the theme park and seeing all those colorful Light Structures such as those forming mushrooms, hearts, tigers, a huge beautiful peacock and so many more! 😍

Aside from that, Becca enjoyed listening as life sized Dinosaurs’ roars and moves along the Dinosaur Park. Other children enjoyed as well, even adults! 😍

Inside the park, we found retail shops and café stalls selling a variety of items including personalized glowing shirts, kids’ toys, fast food, snacks and other local desserts.

We bought a shawarma sandwich and luqaimat from one of the food shops and we loved their fresh servings! 😋

These two loving luqaimat – while my daughter on her first try! 🥰

There was also one Magic Park inside the Glow Garden Theme park.

The Magic Park is an exhibition place where one can get mesmerized with several optical illusions utilized in Visual Arts. There were 3D artworks and geometric forms to create hypnotic optical effects.

However, you would need to either pay for an additional fee or upgrade your existing ticket if you wish to enter.

For us, we didn’t choose to enter because we knew Becca wouldn’t be able to appreciate illusions at this time. Perhaps we could revisit again soon once she grew older.

The Magic Park – a world of amazing optical illusions.

All in all, it was a great adventure.

We visited around May, so for those who wish to experience this beautiful world of imagination, I suggest to visit the place during the cooler months which is around October to February. At this time, your visit will be much more comfortable. That’s why the park is closed for maintenance during the hotter months. For an instance, the park is now closed from July and will reopened again on September, though you would have to recheck their opening and timings.

Despite the said climate, we really enjoyed our visit. There’s no time wasted when it comes to making memories with your family. It was a great night stroll and a wonderful place to see that one must try.

    Our Dubai Desert Safari Experience

  • Our Dubai Desert Safari Experience

Experiencing Dubai Desert Safari is a must not only for residents but for all tourists as well. It is a completely unique adventure, allowing you to experience the wilds of the desert.

It was not our first time to encounter this kind of adventure, but it was a ‘first’ for my mother, who went to Dubai and stayed with us for a month to take care of our daughter, Becca. I knew when she came to Dubai, that she must experience Desert Safari and we really need to go for it!

    Booking the Tickets

Booking for the tickets was quite easy. I bought ours with one Tourism Agency I’ve found in Facebook. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to save their contact details, but for sure, you could find a lot of tourism agencies online. You would also see a lot of their advertisements online, so looking for a tour package has been made easier nowadays.

We paid for the tickets in cash once we met the driver who met us at the meeting point.

Our ticket costs AED39 ($10.60) per head which excluded Dune Bashing. At that time, we didn’t opt for dune bashing since Becca was with us, and I thought she would not like it much – for sure she would get dizzy, fuzzy and just cry – so we skipped that part.

Our package included a good barbecue dinner, some drinks, a free Henna tattoo and watching a show of talented entertainers.

    How To Get There

    By Shared Tour

If you have purchased a tour package from an agency, then transportation is usually included in the cost -where they will pick you up from a specified location, then go to the desert for dune bashing, and finally reaching the drop off point where dinner will be served and shows to be watched.

    By Self-drive

For us, we opted for driving ourselves to the meeting point – which was also the starting point for dune bashing that we’ve chosen to exclude.

We parked our car on the sand beside the road – since we were instructed not to park on the road itself as we would be given a police fine by doing so.

From the meeting point, one SUV drove us to the drop-off point or they call the Bedouin camp.

This was in front of the Bedouin camp, where everyone will be dropped off after Dune Bashing.

    Our Experience

Month of May was not actually an ideal time to go for Desert Safari – it was already hot and summer has already started. But we didn’t have much choice as my mother was here only for a month.

There were lots of things you could experience in this tour.

You can experience Dune Bashing on your way to the Bedouin camp which was actually fun. We didn’t do it on this trip but during our first desert safari experience, it was like a roller coaster ride but with a jeep and over the desert sand. Your driver will take you around the desert, going up and down the highest sand dunes, in seemingly the craziest way possible. It made us nauseous afterwards yet we still enjoyed in some way.

Aside from that, you could also do sandboarding, camel riding, trying shisha (hookah pipe), having your hand painted with henna and trying their local cuisine through their Arabic food and barbecue buffet.

The scarves covering our heads were not actually free, we bought it from one guy who was selling it there for AED 20 ($5.45) per piece. Well, I know the price is really higher from the one you can buy from thrift shop, but as I said, “no money can buy a good memory”. 🥰

You could also get a free Henna tattoo from an Arabic lady artist inside the camp.
If you wish to have a more beautiful and elaborate tattoo, then additional fees will be charged.
These hands were mine and my mom’s. 😁

Inside the Bedouin camp were small shops selling different varieties of cute souvenirs.
We were actually surprised because that store at the corner (left side) was selling alcoholic beverages. 😲
It is uncommon in Dubai especially if it’s not in a hotel – so, that was new for us.

My loves… enjoying the sunset… was just wow! ⛅😍

    The VIP Package

There were free foods and beverages offered at the camp. You would enjoy it while watching the live entertainment shows.

When we arrived at the camp, we were offered to upgrade our package for an additional AED 50 ($13.60) per head to enjoy the Arabic Food Buffet and to sit on an higher level at the camp. We gave it a little thought and finally decided to take the offer.

The VIP package will give you access to their food buffet, to different kinds of freshly grilled barbecue with different options – from mutton, chicken, with spicy and normal flavors – plus, you could start having foods earlier than others (since others who took the normal package will start eating only around 6 or 7pm).

The buffet includes a mix of different cuisines which included Arabic, Egyptian, Indian foods and others – from starters, to main dishes, soups, fresh salads and grilled barbecues. I just couldn’t enumerate each of the dishes’ name as I totally forgot, but I knew there were Moong Dhal, Afghan Rice, Pulao, Buttered Chicken and some Indian chicken soup. 😋

Take note that all these menus were not included in the normal package.

Our tablet was very near to the buffet, in this picture, it was right beside us. So fetching our foods from the buffet was so convenient.

In addition, you would not need to fall in long queue to take your food, as in VIP, they will serve you your food when you asked for it – except for the buffet in which you have to get by yourself. Lastly, you will also enjoy unlimited beverages including water and soda plus some snacks such as samosa and fried onions.

Having a VIP package, we sat on a higher level at the Bedouin camp so we had a better view of the shows and the whole camp itself.
Look how happy they are, but me at the back of the camera, was the happiest! 🥰

Having the VIP Package also allowed us to sit in an elevated or higher level of the Bedouin camp. Through this, we had a better view of the show and the whole camp itself.

All in all, we’ve enjoyed our tour. When it comes to food, we really enjoyed the most of it as it captured our taste buds.

And without a doubt, experiencing Desert Safari was all worth it.

  • Visiting Qasr Al Watan, The Presidential Palace, Abu Dhabi

Qaṣr Al-Waṭan is the presidential palace of the United Arab Emirates, located in Abu Dhabi.

It is more than just a place, it is a unique testament to the spirit of the UAE’ people and its leaders that reveals and reflects on governance, knowledge and craftsmanship.

It has been a great pleasure for my family to be able to visit such a special place. In this blog, I’m happy to share with you all our wonderful experience.

    Opening Hours

The Qasr Al Watan timings are from 10:00 am to 08:00 pm, from Sunday to Thursday. However, the ticket counter is open from 10:00 am to 07:00 pm. Tickets are not issued after 07:00 pm so make sure to arrive there before that so that you have enough time to explore the entire palace

Moreover, the Palace in Motion show is being held at 8:15pm, Last entry: 7:45pm.

We visited the palace in the month of June and we arrived at the location after 10am when it was already a bit hot. So, I suggest to visit the place during the months when the weather is cool – that is around November to February.

Despite the weather condition, we still enjoyed our visit since we wandered inside the palace itself and there are so many things you could see and explore there.

    How To Get There

There are lots of options on how to get to Qasr Al Watan.

If you’re travelling from Dubai, the Qasr Al Watan location is approximately a one and a half hour drive via the E11. While for those travelling from anywhere within Abu Dhabi, expect a 20-30 minute drive.

You may opt for self-drive, taking the bus or hiring a taxi.

Once you arrive, you will need to park at the visitors parking and head to the ticketing counter located inside the Visitor Centre. From there a shuttle bus will take you to the palace grounds. Valet parking at Qasr Al Watan is also available at AED 80 per car from 09:30 am to 09:30 pm.

    Booking the Tickets

When we first arrived in the Visitor Centre, we actually didn’t know that TICKETS ARE NOT FREE OF CHARGE. We absolutely have no idea. I wasn’t sure why I didn’t googled it beforehand. 😅

We were already there, so might as well go with it and pay for the tickets.

Lesson learned: Always do a research before you reach your destination.

Ticket prices were mentioned in the counter where tourists queue to pay for their tickets.

    • Palace and Garden Ticket: AED 60 (Adults), AED 30 (Children below 17 years and Senior Citizens)
    • Garden Only Ticket: AED 60 (Adults), AED 30 (Children below 17 years and Senior Citizens)
    • Standard Guided Tour English/Arabic: AED 30 (1 to 20 visitors)
    • Private Guided Tour English/Arabic: AED 600 (1 to 20 visitors)

Apparently, one staff approached us and told that if we booked online, we will get some discount.

And so we booked ours via the Platinumlist.net. As far as I could remember, we got around 30% discount after booking 3 adult tickets. They usually give different offers every season so keep on checking for good ones! 😍

As mentioned, prices starts from AED 30. So, please note adult ticket prices start at AED 60.

After which, we received our digital tickets and were guided to ride a bus.

This bus took us from the Visitor Centre to the palace grounds. It was around 5 – 10 minutes ride, and yes, it was a few-minute ride since the palace was a very huge place! I couldn’t imagine ourselves if we walk from the entrance to the inside of the palace. 😁

Inside the bus, there were other tourists patiently waiting to enter the palace. There was also this audio speaker that served as a tour guide about what we were seeing around the palace.

I also noticed during the trip that the gated entrance was secured by soldiers. It is indeed a strictly guarded place.

    The Dress Code Policy

The dress code rules are not as restrictive as what you should wear to the Grand Mosque; however, ladies should cover their knees and shoulders and wear nothing too clingy or revealing. A head covering is NOT required; men should wear trousers and tops with shirt sleeves.

    Entering the Presidential Palace.

    The Main Attractions

    The Great Hall

Upon entering the palace, we were amazed by the breathtaking archways. Every side was ornamented with complex gold and earth-toned architectural details.

I could say that the Great Wall is the most amazing things to see inside the Qasr Al Watan. as it features a lot of intricate patterns that you could stare all day.

The ‘Power Of Words’ Art Structure

As we are exploring the Great Hall, we stumbled upon a beautiful golden structure called the “Power of Words”. It featured interlaced words from an Arabic quote by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nayan that says “Wealth is not money or oil, wealth lies in people and it is worthless if not dedicated to serve the people.

It was indeed a picture-perfect spot. You can either stand outside or inside the structure to take a selfie or even a groupie with your family.

    Qasr Al Watan Library

As we kept on exploring the great Hall, we found ourselves in the Qasr Al Watan Library that features more than 50,000 books. A collection that ranges from science, literature, researches as well as newspapers, magazines and other visual contents. If you are a bibliophile, this is a great place for you! 🤓📖📰

    The House of Knowledge

We also roamed around one of the rooms in Qasr Al Watan called ‘The House of Knowledge’. The name implies to its purpose as it cases some of the rarest books and manuscripts as well as historic works of calligraphy that are dated centuries ago.

    The Spirit of Collaboration Room

This is the official meeting room for the highest constitutional authority in the UAE at the Qasr al Watan presidential palace. It is also used to host official summits such as the Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation

    Our Experience

It was one of a kind experience!

First of all, it was our first time to visit a Presidential Palace. In our home country, the Philippines, we didn’t get the chance to visit even once though I’m not sure why. 😅

    A delicately designed wall structure.

Every piece of its structure was stunning, the very detailed walls that consisted of small tiles which were designed delicately next to each other to form a bigger and more beautiful design is just … wow! 😲

Aside from that, the chandeliers hanging from up the ceilings was so elegant, I wondered how many crystals were used to complete one chandelier as there were a lot of them placed all over the halls. Even the huge carpeted floors inside the rooms are truly a masterpiece.

All the structures are uniquely designed from the very detail of each piece. It is a combined effort of all the people who made this building such a success.

Our expedition wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t visited the Qasr Al Watan.

it was one of a lifetime experience and I can say that the price we paid was all worth it. 👌

Not only us adults, but also my little daughter enjoyed the picturesque view from the walls up to the ceiling. She was even cooing whooow… how cute isn’t she?! 🥰

By the way, kid’s strollers are definitely allowed inside the facility. So if you’re planning to come with kids, just go with it and enjoy!

The wall behind us was actually a huge geometrical mirror. I can say it’s geometrical because of the patterned shapes all over it just like huge triangles and diamonds.

And my daughter loved it so much! She stared on that mirror to see her face on it then giggled continuously.

On every side of the hall, there were Security Guards, roaming around.

After roaming around the palace, this was the view after exiting.

From afar, you could also see the Emirates Towers, which we were actually planning to visit. But since, we could see it from there, so we skipped going to that special building. anyways.

In front of the palace, there was this huge fountain that just looked so nice, relaxing and very refreshing. Just a perfect scene for the ‘post-roaming’ experience we had from the beautiful palace.

From here, we rode the bus going back to the Visitor Centre and that was the end of our fulfilling trip.

If you’re coming from Abu Dhabi,

    By Bus

Take the line 160 bus and line 216 bus which takes 2h 41m and costs AED 5 – AED 9.

    By Taxi

It will take approximately 25 minutes for AED 60 – AED 75.

    By Car

You may also do self-drive which will take around 25 minutes.

If you’re coming all the way from Dubai,

    By Taxi

With an average travel duration of 1 hour and 6 minutes, you could reach the destination for the cost AED 190 – AED 240.

    By Self-drive

If you’re an experienced driver, you can also drive yourself and your family or friends to the Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi.

Fortunately for us, we had an existing itinerary in Abu Dhabi. We have planned our trip diligently so we can make our time useful and our visit to Abu Dhabi worth it.

Aside from the Warner Bros. World, we have also visited other touristic places in Abu Dhabi such as the:

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi

Qasr Al Watan, Presidential Palace, Abu Dhabi

    How To Book For Tickets

There are several websites offering tickets which you can book online. You may book Yas Park tickets on the following:

Ticket price starts from AED 295 for adults and AED 230 for children.

Family & Friends ticket is AED 885 for 4 persons.

Parking is also available free of charge.

A short flashback on how we got our free tickets… 🥰

My husband works with a company selling a variety of healthy foods. Part of his job is to possess professionalism and good customer service skills.

One day, one of his friendly patrons, who regularly buys food from his shop, asked him whether he has a family. After he diligently said yes, the guy left for few minutes then returned back to him while saying, “Here are Yas tickets, enjoy with your family.”

On his hand were three Yas Theme Park Tickets. The guy was so kind, so my husband thanked him cheerfully.

These tickets could be used in one of the three Yas Theme Parks which are:

    • Warner Bros World Theme Park
    • Yas Waterworld
    • Ferrari World

It was August 2022 when my husband received the tickets, so technically, our daughter, Becca, was just around 3 months old at the time. So we decided to postpone our visit until our daughter gets older.

My Mother’s 1-month Vacation in the Dubai

Last May 2023, my mother spent 1 month with us to take care of Becca while me and my husband go to work. Just in time, for us to use the free tickets before its expiration which was 1st of July 2023.

I can say that it was just perfect timing that my mother was here to enjoy the time with us, in addition, Becca was around 10 months old, and ready to visit such recreational parks.

Due to Becca’s age, we knew that she would not appreciate that much neither the Yas Waterworld (a huge waterpark) nor the Ferrari World (an amusement park suitable for adult thrill seekers), so our best choice was the Warner Bros World as we thought that she would enjoy seeing the cute cartoon characters in person.

    Our Experience

A huge yellow building with a glass façade welcomed us upon our arrival in Warner Bros World.

Yet of course, if you drove to reach the location using your own car, you will have to park in a nearby building, which was around 5 to 10-minute walk.

Upon entering, you have to show your tickets on the counter and they would scan it using the code shown on the ticket.

Then there you go, you will enter another world in a different dimension. 😊

    The Rides and Attractions

We didn’t actually go for the rides and go inside the attractions especially those with long queues considering my daughter might get bored and cry relentlessly, so we just stroll around and ride the only ride she liked – The Carousel. *at least she liked one* 😊

Warner Bros. World™ Abu Dhabi Rides & Attractions

Strolling around the park, you will be immersed to numerous rides and attractions, shows, restaurants and shops. You’ll even encounter some of your favorite Warner Bros. characters!

Not only children but also adults, like us, will surely enjoy! Even we could see mostly who enjoyed the rides were adults. 😁

If you are a family with kids, surely the kids would love it! From toddler to adolescents, they would be amazed with the Warner Bros experience.

Yes, it was a bit costly especially for us, since we don’t reserve huge budget for this kind of recreational activities. We were just so lucky that we got the tickets for FREE!

For the guy who gave us the tickets, we enjoyed our experience so much! May God bless you and your family as you have a very beautiful heart! ❤️

And here we were, with our most childish smile posing with the most attractive Batman and Wonderwoman. 😂

    The Takeaway

If you would like to indulge into more Yas Island encounters, you might want to check out the Yas Waterworld and Ferrari World.

Aside from that Yas Mall is just around if you would like to go for some shopping. They have good restaurants as well as a food court selling a variety of affordable meals.

We had our lunch inside the food court and bought some Korean foods. It was inexpensive yet so yummy! 😋

And since we were already inside the Yas mall, we also passed by the entrance to Ferrari World. However, we were not able to enter inside since we need to pay for separate tickets.

Well, it was an exhausting yet very fulfilling day so we decided to revisit the Ferrari World after some time when Becca will be older and enjoy the rides with us. Instead, we took some good pictures quickly and went back to our hotel.

By the way, me and my husband are also not a fan of crazy huge thrilling rides. 😅

Have you been to any of the Yas Island theme parks? How was your experience?

We would love to hear from you. let us know on the below comment section.

Apparently, there were things I should have known before visiting the mosque.

Here are the 5 fascinating things about the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. [mfn] Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: 5 Fascinating Facts You Didn’t Know: Visitabudhabi.ae [/mfn]

    1. The mosque’s building materials were imported from different countries across the world – namely New Zealand, Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Pakistan, Italy, Germany, Austria, China and India – as evidenced by marble mosaic floors to the distinctive bright domes topped with stunning gold leaf spires.
    2. The mosque’s interior chandeliers resemble upside down palm trees, which is a symbol of UAE’s prosperity. These chandeliers are adorned with 24-carat gold plates and Swarovski crystals, with millions of green, red, and yellow-colored crystal balls.
    3. The mosque’s lighting system is synchronized with the lunar cycle. The mosque’s color shifts from cool white during a fool moon to deeper blue as the moon wanes and finally in its deepest blue when there’s ‘no moon’ in the sky.
    4. The mosque’s design is inspired by Mughal, Ottoman and Persian architecture . The result us the finest example of tradition, modernity and Islamic art.
    5. The mosque’s construction took 11 years to build which began from 1996. Here also lies the honorable man behind its vision – Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan – and an essential beacon of tolerance.

The view from the glass dome entrance.

    How to get There

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is situated between the three main bridges connecting Abu Dhabi City to the main land (Maqta, Mussafah and Sheikh Zayed bridges).

    If you’re in Abu Dhabi,

    By Taxi

Abu Dhabi’s TRANSAD offer pick-up services by calling their hotline (toll free) number 600535353 or www.transad.ae. You may walk to the taxi designated area in the south car park and wait.

    By Bus

Abu Dhabi has a comprehensive public bus service.  The closest bus station is located approximately 10 minutes walking distance and operates services that take you inside the city.

If you’ll come all the way from Dubai,

    By Taxi

It will take approximately 1.5 hours, depending on where you set out from; expect to pay around AED 300-350 one-way for a metered taxi.

    By Joining A Tour Group

It will take 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the departure point and how many pickups they make. A tour guide, meals, and multiple tourist stops are likely to be thrown in, so the price is very variable per person.

    By Hiring A Private Driver

It will take approximately 1.5 hours which is the best choice if you prefer door-to-door service and like the personal touch – ideal if you are a family or small group looking to split the cost. You can try a service such as Careem or Uber to have private drivers bid on your journey and get a competitive price.

    By Bus

It will take approximately 2 to 2.5 hours depending on your starting point.

    By Self-Drive

If you are a confident driver, it will take 1 to 1.5 hours by taking the E11 road all the way to Abu Dhabi.

Both me and my husband are ‘experienced’ drivers, so we decided to drive from Dubai to Abu Dhabi and promised to take ‘turns’ because it was indeed a long drive. 🙂

The entrance is actually quite far away from the Mosque itself, it leads you down to some shops and then a very long tunnel to security and eventually up to the mosque.

The 30-minute walk tunnel leading to the mosque.

    Everyone Must-Know

    Entrance is free.

The entry for the mosque is free. But there are guided tours available that start at AED 25.

    Follow the dress code.

Mosques are revered places for Muslims, so every one should have a conservative dress style, especially when entering the Grand Mosque. Both men and women must cover their arms and legs and avoid wearing skirts or shorts shorter than their ankles.

Jeans are allowed. In addition, open toes footwear is acceptable for both males and females, as long as ankle-length clothing is worn. the ankle must be completely covered.

    Be mindful when taking pictures.

From our experience, we were not allowed to take pictures while squatting in front of the mosque. We were trying this position since my daughter was in a stroller and we wanted to take a groupie of all of us. Because of this, one security guard approached us and tell us to refrain what we were doing and delete any pictures taken.

Another scene, was when me and my husband were taking a selfie of us both. We thought that perhaps, it was also not allowed to pose while showing affection – like wrapping your arm around another’s shoulder or waist, holding hands (I guess), and having your faces next to each other. (I hope you get my point).

On this occasion, one guard almost approached us, so I just removed my hand from my husband’s shoulder (for example) just to keep the guard from finally reaching to us.

Despite the restrictions, we need to comply to the mosque’s policy with respect to their cultures and traditions. We truly understood, yet considering it’s our first time coming to such beautiful place, we sincerely apologize at some point. 🙂

    Our Experience

Our Abu Dhabi expedition will never be complete if we don’t visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

    It’s a must visit spot!

It was a one of a kind architecture stunning in each piece and every corner. It will also be a great experience to visit especially for us non-Muslims so we are very thankful for letting us experience such a wonderful place.

During our tour, we can see groups of people having their own guided tour. I think it would be good as well so you could have detailed insights about the mosque. I believe guided tours are free so everyone can enjoy.

Just be ready for a long 30-minute walk from the glass dome through the tunnel until the mosque itself. Well, it was a good cardio workout after all!

We went there in the month of April, around 2pm which was not really advisable. The ideal time to visit the mosque is in the evening, around 5:30 PM, when you can wander outside without being blistered by the intense heat searing your feet. You can avoid the heat, which can be highly uncomfortable, by visiting in the morning or evening, especially from May to November, when it is the summer.

Most of all, enjoy the scene, immerse into the Islamic culture and religion, and take lots of photos to preserve memories.

As you see, there were lots of tourists with us who visited the mosque. It was hot, but not prickling hot, so I could say that every one enjoyed their visit.

As well as for this little girl too! She was pointing here and there to all those beautiful facades. She was amazed for sure since it was her first time to see such a stunning place.

Once again, make sure to follow their dress code as I have mentioned above. They have a very strict policy that everyone must comply, otherwise, you will not be allowed to enter.

I have read that there were some clothes or ‘abayas‘ for rent inside the mosque, but I didn’t see any. All I have seen were shops selling clothes such as abaya and scarves to cover the head.

Make sure to bring one of yours so you would not need to buy from there.

Have you been to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi? What do you think about its architectural design?

We would love to hear from you! Feel free to share your experience down the below comment section.

The View at The Palm is located on level 52 of The Palm Tower where one can find a creative exhibition that showcases the development of the Pal island. The landmark also has a café inside, an interactive aquarium-themed tunnels and a souvenir shop.

    Booking the tickets

We booked our The Palm View tickets online along with our Burj Khalifa At The Top tickets via the website Headout.com. Same as the latter, we only booked tickets for 3 adults as my daughter, who was 10months old at the time, was given free entry.

Once you book your ticket online, you will receive a voucher by email, it has a QR code which you would need to scan upon entry.

Along with this online voucher, you may also bring a valid photo ID in case proof of verification is needed. Though, it was not required from us when we went there.

Kindly note that the ticket we booked could only be used during the non-prime hours.

    • Mon to Thu: 9am to 3pm & 7pm to 10pm
    • Fri to Sun: 9am to 3pm & 7pm to 12am

If you would like to experience the view during sunset, then ticket prices will be different.

From 100 AED ($27.25), ticket price will be 158 AED ($43.05) during prime hours which is around 4pm to 7pm.

Moreover, children ages 4 to 12 years old, ticket price will be 69 AED ($18.80).

    Ticket Redemption Point

    • Show your ticket at The View at The Palm.
    • Address – Palm Jumeirah Rd, The Palm Tower, 52ed Floor – Dubai – United Arab Emirates

    How to get there

    By Taxi/ Tram

The View at The Palm is located around 34 kilometers from the Dubai International Airport. The best way to cover this 35-minute long drive is by hiring a taxi or self-driving. You will need to get onto E11 from Casablanca St/ D70 to reach the airport. Alternatively, you can take the Dubai Tram from the airport.

    By Bus

The closest bus stop is Palm Jumeirah Monorail Station. It’s a quick 3-mins walk to the attraction. You could board buses 8 and N55 to get you there. Other bus lines are also available.

    By Self-drive

As for us, right after we left Burj Khalifa in the morning, we proceeded straight to The Palm Jumeirah in the afternoon and reached there after 2pm. We drove on the same way going to The Atlantis, there were signs showing the way to The Palm observation deck. Apparently, since we’re still unfamiliar with Dubai roads, we always use the Waze app – and we find it very useful.

This shot is from up above the observation deck. I posted it here just to show you the road you need to take to get to the building. The main road shown on the center while the tram shown on right side of this picture.

    Hope it helps. 🙂

Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it you can never get it back.

    The Experience

In The Palm View Jumeirah, you will be able to have a bird’s eye view of the whole The Palm Island which was definitely astounding. I couldn’t imagine the effort that has been put on to this island to shape it as a Palm tree. It was unique at the same time since it was our first time to see a wonderful place like it!

I can say that it was one of a kind experience and the price was all worth it.

As an expatriate, who knows how long we’ll be here in Dubai, at least we got the chance to have a glimpse on this beautiful island.

Moreover, I’m very happy to share this experience with my beautiful family, most especially my mother, my husband and my cute little daughter.

    Thanks for the experience! 🙂

Time is the most valuable thing a man can spend.

    Theophrastus

    The Climate

We went there in the month of May, when it was already hot in Dubai, but not excruciating hot. At that time of the year, you could still visit landmarks and engage in some outdoor activities.

However, it’s still always recommended to visit such places during winter as the climate will be cool and you’ll be more comfortable.

In addition, to experience minimal crowds, you may visit on weekdays between 10:00 AM to 03:30 PM or 07:30 PM to closing. For spectacular sunset views, visit between 04:00 PM to 07:00 PM, but as aforementioned there will be price difference during these times.

We’re so busy watching out for what’s just ahead of us that we don’t take time to enjoy where we are.

    Bill Watterson

Here’s the map location of Burj Khalifa.

Experiencing Burj Khalifa, At The Top

Last April 2023, my mother arrived in Dubai to stay for a month to help us take care of our daughter, while me and my husband go to work.

At that time, I thought that it would be nice to bring my mother inside Burj Khalifa as we can only see this building from the pictures, or from afar, whenever we visit places nearby Downtown Dubai.

We were so enthusiastic about it so decided to go there and book for the tickets.

    Booking At The Top Tickets

We booked our tickets via the website Headout.com last 30th April 2023. In this website, you may book tickets for any tourist spot on different countries across the world including UAE, US, UK, Italy, Singapore, France, Netherlands, Spain and many more.

We booked for a total of 3 tickets for the three of us (adults). Kids less than 3 years old doesn’t have to pay for tickets, so they didn’t charge for my daughter’s entry, who was 10 months at the time.

Highlights of the tour include experiencing Dubai from up above on an observation deck on the 124th floor and 125th floor, and the world’s fastest elevator that travels at 10 meters per second. You can also have access to the telescopes to have a better view of the astounding places in Dubai.

    Our Headout.com review:

Booking the tickets from this website was hassle-free. After booking, you will receive an online voucher with a QR code which will be scanned upon entering the Burj Khalifa.

    View From The Top

From the top, you shall be able to see numerous buildings in the heart of Dubai. The roads and highways look so amazing on a bird’s eye view.

Technically, you can see Burj Khalifa from everywhere if you’re near the heart of Dubai, especially Downtown. Since me and my husband work at Business Bay area in Dubai, we see and pass by this building everyday.

But of course, being at the top of this building is a very different scenario and the view was picturesque! I could imagine myself driving on those roads!

Things You Can Do At The Top

First thing you can do, of course, is to take marvelous photos – selfies and groupies – below, I’m sharing you ours with our little one.

For sure, you’ll have better shots! Just don’t forget to take a picture in front of the ‘wings‘ so you’ll have an angelic shot. 🙂

Second thing, you can use the telescope at the observation deck to scan landmarks in the city. It was connected to a monitor where you can zoom in a place and get the details about it, for example, when you are viewing the Burj Al Arab through the telescope, details and other technical details will be shown on the screen.

Another thing you can do is to shop Burj Khalifa souvenirs to preserve memories. I just hope that souvenir prices would be cheaper. 🙂

    Expat advise:

Buy souvenirs outside the Burj Khalifa. There are lots of 10-dirham shops across the heart of the city. You may find Day-to-Day shops, Gift Village and Markets, Gate shops and many more. These stores have numerous branches where you can buy super cheap souvenirs and a vast variety of products.

You may check on Google for the shops’ locations. Surely you will save more money and spend it more in exploring Dubai.

    Our Overall Experience

It was my mother’s first time to visit such skyscraper at a very high floor – she didn’t get nauseous, and therefore enjoyed the whole experience. From the looks, my daughter also adored it as she giggled every time she stares on the cars she could see from down the roads.

We really savored our time At The Top as it was a very special place one can ever visit.

I could say that it’s worth the price.

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”

    Theodor Seuss Geisel

P.S. Yes I know, this picture is blurred. Haha!

    *one picture with a story*

Rewind.. rewind.. One lady approached us and offered to buy this photograph from them, it was a bit expensive, out of our budget, so I took a shot of that picture from her monitor. She said it was not allowed, but I couldn’t help it and I just want to save this picture as one of our memories from Burj Khalifa.

I just took the chance, but I hope nobody will get angry with me. Hah!

Until you value your time more than you value your money, you will never be truly wealthy.

Creative Ideas for Monthly Baby Milestones

  • Creative Ideas for Monthly Baby Milestones

    Time flies so fast!

Before you know it, they’ve grown up so fast and all you have are memories. All happens in the blink of an eye. So as much as possible, we cherish every moment like it’s the most special one.

One of the best things about being a parent today is being able to capture and document all of our baby’s milestones. It is indeed a fun way to track our baby’s growth and development.

Writing down numbers inside a baby book can be boring and tedious, but taking milestone photos does the job and makes it more enjoyable!

Nowadays, we are no longer limited to the use of film cameras and paid photographers. Now, there are several ways of taking pictures, it’s even easier now to DIY or do it on your own way!

I’m happy to share with you my lovely daughter’s monthly milestones and hope you get inspired by these creations. Some dress are personally crocheted by me making it more personal and admirable.

So take time to freeze these fleeting memories, the year will pass and your future self will be thanking you for this.

During our baby’s first year of life, we will witness their many ‘firsts‘ – their first smile, their first meal, their first work, their first step… There will be no other chance to do this!

Time goes by so fast, and before you know it, your child no longer fits in the crook of your arm. So take advantage of the moment that you have now!

When the nights are long and the tears are streaming, still baby you are the best!

We named our little darling, Rebecca…

    Rebecca / Becca / Bekang / Becbec / Bika ❤

Means “enchantingly beautiful”, “fettered by beauty”, “captivating beauty”, peacemaker”, “determined”

In Bible (Rebekah), wife of Isaac, mother of Esau and Jacob, described as corteous, trusting, and helpful.

In Greek (Rivkah/ Ribbqah/ Rhebekka), “to tie” or “to bind”

In Irish, “to tie, a quarrel appeased”

My First Pregnancy Journey: The Labor and Delivery

  • Why I Gave my Baby Formula Instead of Breastmilk

    Daily Short Blog #20

Breastfeeding is not as easy as everyone knows and I didn’t realize until I get to feed my own baby.

P.S I’m not discouraging breastfeeding on this blog, I think I just want to express myself as to why I opt for formula.

Breastfeeding is fulfilling and exhausting all at the same time. When I finally saw my baby in the delivery room, all I want is to give her everything I could. I want to feed her as I saw her crying to think that she might be hungry or something.

    Few months before delivery

Before giving birth, I was so eager to breastfeed my baby that I have bought a lot of things to support the both of us – me and my baby. I bought a nursing scarf, breastfeeding pillow and the most expensive breast pump I have ever found in the local market! 😀

I bought one set of Medela Breast Pump for around AED 500 (or USD 140), a breastfeeding pillow from Babyhug at AED 50 (or USD 14 and a scarf for AED 40 (or USD 10). I was really hoping to breastfeed my baby that time but then I have valid reasons, and please don’t judge. 🙂

    First Reason

I was not blessed with good milk supply.

Considering I was already doing all the recommendations to increase my supply such as: increasing water intake, frequent latching, taking moringa and other supplements, eating soup everyday – still I failed myself.

My husband diligently cooked healthy foods with green leafy vegetables everyday just to help me improve my milk supply. We always had sinabawang halaan (shellfish), sinigang na karne, dinengdeng and anything mixed with soup and malunggay (or moringa).

Aside from consuming these meals daily, I have also tried taking supplements on a regular basis such as these lactation tea – which I drink twice or thrice a day. But unfortunately, didn’t work out for me.

    Second Reason

    I was stressed.

While I was on my 2-month-long maternity leave, just before I was returning back to work, my previous company gave me 1-month notice of termination. And therefore, I’ve lost my job. I really didn’t know the main reason why – is it because I was not there for the last 2 months and didn’t benefitted the company? or was it because I need to pump while working? or because I was entitled for a 20-hr breastfeeding break per month? thinking I wouldn’t be able to perform my job properly?

For me, it was truly unfair, unjust and discriminatory for I have just technically given birth and now I’m losing my 5-year old job when I haven’t returned back to work yet. Legally, it was against the UAE law, but I tried to move on, perhaps it was for something better – in which, indeed something better happened for me in exchange.

I have posted a blog about my journey postpartum and how I lost my job and gratefully found a better one.

    Check out my blog here:
Losing my 5-Year Old Job after my Maternity Leave

I was dedicated to feed my baby through breastfeeding but with my significantly low milk supply, it went to zero supply because of all the stress hormones I was having.

I was upset losing my job and at the same time, pressurized to find a new one, since I couldn’t afford to be jobless especially in a foreign country with a family to feed.

    In the end

I felt frustrated and that I was a failure. I wasn’t able to feed my baby with breastmilk and that she wasn’t able to get nutrients from it.

But still, I’m grateful that I was able to provide her sufficient formula milk that she needs to sustain growth and development.

I hope my blog could still help you and other mothers striving to increase their milk supply.

  • Overnight Camping at Suhaila Lake, Hatta, UAE

It was during the UAE National Day December 1, 2022 when we camped at Suhaila Lake, Hatta, UAE. It’s Becca’s 2nd time to experience overnight camping as well, and guess, she loved it!

It was a 2-hour drive from where we’re residing in Dubai and was indeed a long drive. Thank goodness our 6 months old daughter have been very behave as she just slept through the journey.

The views of the mountains are very comforting especially that we are living in a place where building and cars populate the city. We really love to go out of our comfort zone and indulge with nature.

We were so happy that our little one appreciates the beauty of nature. We could see how she was amazed by the cool winds and greeneries.

We arrived and found our camping spot around 4 in the afternoon. The weather was really good that you would just want to sit down, eat something and enjoy the view. We camped just beside the lake same as the other campers who spent the night together with their families and friends.

By the way, this was an artificial or man-made lake same like the one in Expo 2020 lake in Qudra. Though in this place, noise was lesser, crowd was not that much and there were no mosquitoes. So I can say, that it’s a good camping spot if you’re planning to go with babies, toddlers and older kids.

Around 6 pm, everyone enjoyed the sunset, some continued grilling their barbecues, few children enjoyed playing in the lake while some enjoyed taking pictures with the great lake view just like this cute daddy and his baby.

I just keep on felling in love with this pic, look how cute they were! 🙂

This was our view in the morning. The cold breeze waved at us when we get out of our tents. Some people have left already, guessing most of them didn’t spent the whole night and went home at dawn.

In Suhaila Lake, cleanliness is substantial. People took care of their own garbage and willfully put them in the proper trash cans. Although same as other places, small pieces of plastics and other utensils could be found every where which probably were blown away by the wind. Nevertheless, cleaning attendants came to clean the small leftovers and properly sorted out the small pebbles that were washed or thrown away by the kids when playing by the lake.

Just keep in mind that there were no washrooms in the area so you have to consider this before choosing this place as a camping spot. You may bring your own portable toilet tent instead, just like what we always have.

Around 8 in the morning, we arranged our camping gears, leftover foods and other utensils and put them back to our cars as we headed to Hatta Dam.

On our way, there was this place you can see the word ‘HATTA’ just like the ‘Hollywood’ sign in the U.S. So we did a stop over and took some pictures.

It was a perfect view… look how cute they were! 🙂

Baby Becca, when you’ve grown up and see this pic, just know that you’ve been to Hatta a.k.a Hollywood! Haha! 😀

Becca, now looks sad, but she wasn’t! She was just sleepy, so cute little baby. 🙂

After this pic, we headed straight to Hatta Dam.

Actually, it’s the second time for me and my husband to go to Hatta Dam so we decided not to go up there as it was so high and we needed to climb up to a very long flight of stairs. Any way, it could also be difficult for us bringing our baby up there. So as we wait for our friends, we just waited for them at the parking zone where food shops were installed.

We got some pics at the Hatta Dam too from our previous visit, which I would definitely be sharing on my later posts! Hope you could catch up with us!
