Expo 2020 Lake in Dubai is a man-made body of water located in Al Qudra. It has stunning views from top side and outside of the lake.
The design of Expo 2020 Lake is actually the same as the Expo 2020 logo design. You may see this with a bird’s eye view when flying in or out the Al Maktoum International Airport. Visitors, locals and expatriates will be able to visit this gem that was built by Dubai Municipality.
How to go to Expo 2020 lake?
If you are currently in UAE or planning on heading there to visit Expo 2020, and would like to go to the lake, you can head there along the D63 route past the final exit and then turn right on the road, it is actually the same road that leads to Al Qudra lakes, it is easier to use this google maps link and find your directions from your current spot.
Is the entrance free?
Yes, it is free. Just don’t leave any of your trash on the camping site. Save the environment by helping the caretakers on picking up your own garbage and throwing it on the proper bin.
Are there washroom facilities available?

Yes, there are comfort room facilities for both ladies and gents. However, I wasn’t able to use it. Honestly, I don’t prefer using the washroom facilities on places like this, public park or any famous camping spots, because for sure, a seems-to-be an unending queue will be there. That’s why when camping, we always bring our own toilet tent which is a tall pop-up and portable tent made up of polyester, where you can put a portable plastic urinal inside or if you’re adventurous like us, then digging a hole on the soil / sand is enough.
As the saying goes…
“Camping is the art of getting closer to nature while getting farther away from the nearest cold beverage, hot shower, and flush toilet.”

Overnight Camping at Expo 2020 Lake
It was a holiday commemorating the UAE’s 50th National Day when I, my husband and our friends have decided to go for an overnight camping on this place for the very first time. On 1st of December 2021, we have met up and gathered with our friends on the location itself.
Going to Expo 2020 Lake is not as hard as going up the mountains. It just took as around 1 and half hour from the heart of Dubai to reach the place. And before reaching the lake, you will have to go through a sandy rough road for around 10 to 20 minutes.
We arrived at the lake around 4 in the afternoon and an enormous number of visitors and campers were already there! Lots of colorful tents were already built by campers to prepare for the night.
The weather was really good at that time, it was windy and the breeze was cool, not to cold to make you shiver. December is really a perfect season to go for camping.
We were at least 4 families enjoying the night together. We have grilled some barbecues such as fish, chicken, pork and a few sausages. We also had a delicious beef soup which we cooked in a portable stove stoked up by using butane cans. The gentlemen of our group savor the moment with a little amount of alcohol, and with music, all of us including the kids enjoyed the whole stay.
The night has ended around 1 in the morning and we start waking up one-by-one around 6 in the morning onwards. We were not able to sleep much due to the noise from the surrounding campers who played music till morning, yet this was actually expected. It’s holiday thus crowd will be present.
The sun has risen… yet the wind still feels cool! While being fond of the weather, we took some time to appreciate the sceneries. Walking by the lake, feeding the fishes, and waving hello to some other campers (asking why they didn’t turned down their music last night…. haha :D), kidding aside, the activities we did during our camping night truly sufficed our wonderful stay.
“A bad day camping is still better than a good day working.”
An endearing shot of me and my husband after the joyful camping night with our amazing friends. When camping, you know that one night is never enough, you never know how time is moving so fast. But what important is – is the time well spent with your companions, the conversations and lovely stories you’ve shared with each other, and the memories you’ve made together.
“Life is s’more fun with friends.”
We would love to hear from you!
