Winter is here.
After a very verrrry long summer, it’s now winter in the UAE. To fully enjoy the climate, many UAE residents build their camps everywhere – some along the desert, by the beach, and even up to the mountains.
I, my husband and our friends have been camping for the last few years and we enjoy it a lot. Aside from savoring the fresh air – no screen time and indulging to a deep conversation with your special ones is quite remarkable experience.
We don’t usually do camping in the Philippines, I think it’s because we have our own garden or backyard there where we can bond with our family anytime; and it’s constantly raining there! While in the UAE, residential setups are usually inside the building in flats or villas where it’s very unusual to find quiet spots to relax.
We camped several times before in the UAE in so many different places. You can check out my blogs here:
Saraya Island, Al Rams, Ras Al Khaimah
This time, we camped with my daughter who was 6 months old that time and it was her first time!
Here she is and a view of the Expo 2020 Lake as our backdrop. I was glad that she liked it. Letting our kids indulge in nature is really a good thing not only they can breathe in fresh air but also because their socialization skills will improve drastically; that’s why we are so happy that we have our friends with us!
We enjoyed the time we’ve spent in Expo. And as you can see, it’s not only us who were amused with this beautiful place! There were lots of campers and other visitors who spent their time to camp, walk, and enjoy the sunset. Some were even plunging on the lake itself, enjoying the cold waters.
Some people, including us of course, have tried feeding the fishes as there were lots of them on the lake in different colors! They were so nice to watch. Even the children are so much delighted that they just wanted to jump into the waters so they can swim with the fishes. Oh so cute, so silly!
The evening was cold, thanks to the wine and whiskey we have something to warm our tummies. We brought some cooked food and some hot soup that could help us keep warm in the cold weather.
Look at our little Becca fully clothed with her cute little sweater. She was so jolly and wanted to play with everything she sees. So stubborn that she wants to turn around every now and then. And for this reason, she was sweaty so I didn’t think she was bothered by the chilliness.
After the cold night, the sun shined over the damp surroundings making it more beautiful.
A Word From the Author
Becca enjoyed her sleep, though beware of some noisy neighboring campers who spends the night by playing ear-spitting music, chatting and singing with their loud voices.
This is actually one of the problems when camping in a crowded location such as the Expo lake. A lot of campers go there not only to relax but also to celebrate something or just make noises. It’s difficult to understand their reason but maybe because they were just caught up with the scene and they’re just trying to enjoy the ambience, or maybe it’s their first time camping.
To all the campers out there, let us try to enjoy a quiet night of camping. Chatting is okay, but shouting and laughing like it’s the last night in the world is very disturbing. Please also think about the other campers on the area who are just trying to enjoy their time.
The Takeaway
Our usual camping experience involves a break from the digital world and the constant connectivity to the world of entertainment and social media. So as much as possible, we try to avoid using our mobile phones and other digital devices when camping. It’s a nice time to forget about screen time – the main reason why me and my husband do camping ever since.
In addition, it’s an enjoyable moment to create memories with your special ones such as what we just had here in Expo lake. Camping was exhausting as you have to clean your area, fold and return all your tents, camping chairs and other camping materials on their own storage bags afterwards. Given that we are know camping with our little one, our baggage significantly increased compared to what we are bringing before.
Nevertheless, it was just another happy memory of a time well spent with your beloved family and valued friends – and that’s what really matters.
