Losing my 5-Year Old Job after my Maternity Leave

Daily Short Blog #19

It has been four months since the last day of my 2-month long Maternity Leave while I’m writing this blog and there were ups and downs since then.

After finishing my leave, I was suddenly informed that I need to look for another job since the business is not doing good. I felt sad and devastated as after all those years of service, it’s that easy for them to let me go. But what can you say? There’s no forever.

I prayed that everything happens for a reason though I just felt a bit depressed probably due to the postpartum hormones.

So just before reporting back to work, I was urged to look for a new job. As an expatriate, I could not be jobless especially now that we just had a baby. I need to take care of my baby and my family. Even though my husband already has a full time job, it is not enough to sustain our needs and other expenses.

The First Job Offer

Two weeks after reporting back to work I was able to find a job wherein I was offered to work from home. The benefits were all good so I accepted the offer thinking I could personally take care of my baby while working. Being a mother, it is my priority to take care of my baby.

As a first time mom, everything was new to me. So adjusting to a new job will definitely be a challenge. I have nothing else to do but trust everything will be okay and that God will always be there for us.

The Farewell Email

I tendered my last day with my previous company and sent farewell emails to all our clients and suppliers. I think it was luck when one of my suppliers asked me if I would want to join their company. I discussed with them their offer and finally came into terms.

The Second Job Offer

This second company have offered me better benefits than the previous one, most importantly higher salary and better working conditions. Even though the job does not offer work from home, at least I still got 2 days of rest and the management is not so strict with timings. The working condition was better and there will be someone who will be supervising me – at least I’m not fully responsible for all the company’s business, unlike before – now, there will be someone who will be guiding and helping me with all the matters.

The job offered me an excellent work and life balance – which is the most important thing. I can pursue my career and take care of my family at the same time. Therefore, I have accepted the offer and signed the agreement.

Beyond Grateful

After everything that was happening with my life for the last few months after delivery, I’m very thankful for all the things which had happened to me and my family. I lost my job yet I found a better one.

The new company is a supplier as well as a competitor with my old company. Nonetheless, I promise myself that I would give my best for this job and accomplish the tasks assigned to me. I’m a hard worker who always give importance to my job. I love and protect it as it’s an important aspect of my everyday living.

I thank God for all the blessings we are receiving and I wish for his guidance so I can accomplish all the challenges that would come with my new job – and motherhood as a new phase of my life.
