“They’ll never forget, never forgive, no matter who the enemy is, son. Better just to start a new life. Be someone else.“
Jeff Vandermeer
We all have experienced a great load of success from 2019 accompanied by failures, lessons and wonderful memories. The previous year taught as a lot of things which we have never known before. There are positive yet there are also negative memoirs.
No matter how good or bad it affected us, we still need to be confident to move on. However, moving forward is often easier said than done.
Are you ready to push your restart button this year? Here are new things you could do which you may sort out to start this year anew.
1. Leave your grudges from the past. You will never be able to move on and keep going if you are carrying a huge load of resentment in your heart filled with loneliness, anger and vengeance. Can you imagine yourself smiling but sad deep inside? This first task is difficult but you could not move on to the next if you don’t start from here. Purify your soul and leave your grievances to where it belongs, in the Past. The important thing now is what you are capable in the present and what you could do to brighten up your future.
2. Learn how to forgive yourself. We are all human beings capable of doing mistakes. Forgiving yourself sounds easy but being able to do it requires empathy, compassion, kindness, and understanding. It also requires you to accept that forgiveness is a choice. A choice to give yourself a second chance. Just as what we always tell to those who sin to us – just “don’t do it” of “do it better next time”.
3. Meet new people. Mingle and engage your life with others; not too personal but be more social. It will help you learn more about the different aspects of life. They can even help you solving your struggles may it be at work or at home. We’re saying, just be more open for others’ suggestions, you will absolutely benefit a lot from it.
4. Look for a new job. We don’t mean for you to change or leave your present job, but do a job or a little task that would significantly change your daily routine. It doesn’t mean that you need to earn something from it, but instead, it should be a job which will provide you knowledge about things you aren’t aware of.
Look around you, there are a variety of things you could try especially with the cutting-edge technology where people gets connected easily through different social media platforms such as stock photography, video blogging, web blogging, social media marketing, magazine article writing and others. With these, it will not only gives you a possibility of earning, but it will mainly improve your conceptual awareness and understanding of the world’s concurrent subjects and issues.
5. Be healthy and go to the gym. Hey, don’t be afraid! They won’t eat you there. If you have never been there, just get up, work out and who knows? You might meet few friends whom you could share healthy lifestyle goals. Furthermore, it will not only help you have a better shape physically but it will also improve your cardiovascular function, or shall we say your well-being.
Aside from the gym, you may also start engaging to other physical activities such as running, swimming, cycling, yoga, soccer, calisthenics, aerobic dancing and many others
6. Travel to a place you have never been before. Get out, explore and discover places outside your bubble. Life is short, so if you’re just spending all your time at work, perhaps you are not consuming your lifetime wisely. Do mountain hiking in your province or swim on the nearest beaches in your city, or if capable, visit a different country. There are numerous countries out there that are considered safe for travelling, it’s just waiting for you to find out.
7. Learn some new domestic skills. There’s a lot isn’t it?!? Let’s say for example, cooking. It is an essential skill in order for anyone to survive independently. Some even take up courses in order to learn professional skills and know more about bizarre recipes. Actually, we have been planning to acquire skill in baking; we just need some time to purchase basic materials.
Nevertheless, one can easily gain knowledge about a lot more skills such as painting, knitting, crocheting, mastering the basic use of some carpentry tools, etcetera. This will help a lot either you are self-sufficiently living on your own or in a household with your family. Once learned, you might not need a professional assistance for these skills anymore.
8. Engage more with your family and distant relatives. Living an adult life seems to be very engaging. It occupies most of our time at work. Others even extend their working hours just to accomplish the task that are assigned to them. Therefore, this habit makes it difficult to reach out to other people especially to family, relatives and even friends.
Being close to your family and relatives doesn’t require a short distance. If you’re living at a different city or province or working in a different country, communicating with other people from afar is now made possible and easier by our advanced technology. There are now an abundant number of ways to interconnect with each other. Involving them to your plans to start anew will be beneficial for you in terms of guidance and wisdom.
9. See life in a different perspective. Why do you think your plan for 2019 didn’t work so well? Maybe now, you have to change your point of view and look for something that may help improve your outlook in life. If you goal for greatness, you have to model it with your thinking. You have to open your eyes up to the beauty in front of you and celebrate it. Only then you will be in the right mindset to improve your future.
10. Share your emotions with others. Whether you feel happy, sad, lonely, angry or awesome, it feels better when you have somebody with you to share it with. It either spices up the mood or lightens the darkness you are experiencing, it simply makes it greater!
In addition, lessen your time in social media as it would never improve your social and emotional well-being. In some cases, it becomes a major cause of depression that took a lot of people’s lives just because of what they see or read from it. Therefore, it is always better to have a conversation with somebody rather than a device that will never respond to you.
11. Save and invest. Money cannot offer happiness but it surely provides security. Not only for your future but for your soon-to-be family. Budget your salary as per the Rule of Thumb where 50% goes to your “needs” or necessities, 30% to your “wants” or leisure, and 20% on savings. Thus, save a small portion of your monthly earnings and another to your investment.
There are numerous ways to invest and it is primarily classified to real estate, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, index funds, exchange-traded funds and etcetera. In the Philippines, we have the Philippine stock market where an investor can purchase a share of stocks from a specific company while in the United Arab Emirates, they have the National Bonds which is also a good way for expatriates to invest.
12. Avoid purchasing unnecessary things. We tend to buy items we don’t actually need especially during promotional periods or special seasons when shops offer their biggest and cheapest bargains. Somehow, we can try to lessen our unnecessary visit to shopping malls because most of the time, during these “strolls”, we unexpectedly find an item we “want” to have. Then, we incline to purchase it needlessly.
13. Help other people in need whenever capable. Numerous calamities are happening nowadays, acts of natures which we can never control. These causes destruction to enormous amount of people and their families causing damages to their livelihood and everyday life. Hence, a small act of kindness is appreciable probably by donating clothes and other relief goods, volunteering and cooking hot meals for the evacuees will be of great value for those unfortunate.
14. Learn how to pray. Start the day with a simple morning prayer. No need to memorize! Anything that comes from your heart at the time you wake up is enough. Thanking Him for the goodnight sleep and a chance to have another day of your life, asking for forgiveness for your shortcomings and imperfections and asking for guidance on pursuing the day ahead of you are enough to deepen your relationship with Him. Another year of life is such a wonderful blessing so you might need His direction to start afresh.
15. Be hopeful. The previous year 2019 might have caused you certain negativity in life. There are hatred, failures and losses you might have experienced, but be optimistic! It taught you lessons you have learned for the first time! This year, expect that you will become more confident, stronger and even more matured than ever. You are now better in handling personal, social and professional problems because you have finally figured out how not to fail again.
Positively look forward and keep your head up as the new year has a lot to offer. Blessing and events in your life you don’t expect to have. It’s a year full of surprises and who knows? You might bump into a bag full of cash or a man who wishes to become your business partner. We just need to hope that it’s for a better life.
How about you? What are your hopes for the future?
Let us know and we would be very glad to know how you would achieve it too!
