Love Yourself This Valentine’s Day: 13 Self-Care Tips

Valentine’s Day is a wonderful day to do a little extra for someone special in your life. And, guess what? YOU are that someone special!

V-Day is notoriously thought of as one of the worst days of the year for anyone who’s single. But really, who said it had to be that way?

Whether you’re single or just meh with the way your partner has handled this special day, it’s truly important to know self-care tips which you deserve to feel good about yourself and to have a great day no matter what!

Doing self-care on V-Day isn’t only about giving yourself one small thing or trying to pretend that this day doesn’t exist. Rather, it’s about nurturing and loving yourself as well as feeling at peace with whatever situation you’re in at the moment.

Try these ideas to spread lots of love to yourself today and every day, Valentine!

1. Have Fun With Friends

You don’t need to be alone on Valentine’s Day leaving you feeling more wretched. Instead, make dinner reservations for an evening out with your friends or have a cozy night in and enjoy each other’s company.

Indulge to a movie you’ve been wanting to see, hand them over a glass of wine while Netflixing, or just grab some coffee. As long as you’re all having fun, that’s all that matters.

2. Reward Yourself A Gift

Reward yourself with something you love. Whether it’s a perfume or a pretty new dress you’ve been eyeing for weeks or just fill a pretty box with a few of your favorite things to enjoy.

As an example, I would really love to give myself some dark chocolate, herbal tea, scented candles or perhaps, a Pandora Charm Valentine’s Day limited edition. All available in Amazon. 🙂

Sometimes, getting yourself a little something is the best way to show yourself that you care! Because that’s what you really deserve.

3. De-stress Yourself

Wind down, if you’re feeling like you need to let off some steam, do that! You should definitely take some quiet time to yourself to reflect, shut your brain off, and de-stress. Perhaps you need to let out some anger or sadness — it’s totally OK not feel empowered and happy sometimes.

Is it yoga, gardening, running or swimming? Do something that works for you. Endorphins and serotonin are highly produced when you’re active, therefore, exercise is a great way to feel better, happy and joyful. Just get out there and bust a move.

4. Cook Your Favorite Food

Cooking and food, in my opinion, are their own forms of love. So, take time to make yourself something delicious. It’s a great way to unwind and keep yourself distracted and feel accomplished.

It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just make your favorite meal or something you really like, such as mac and cheese or pizza. Nourishing your tummy with fresh ingredients and your favorite spices is the ultimate act of self-care and attention from yourself, to yourself.

5. Retreat from Social Media

Honestly, social media is really exhausting especially on Valentine’s Day. People are just posting how they’re celebrating with their significant other, or pictures or quotes on how much they hate the holiday. It causes negative energy which can really make you feel worse.

Therefore, take a break from social media for the day and turn off those noisy email alerts on your phone and computer. Instead, focus on doing something you love such as reading fiction books, binge watching Netflix, browsing through your favorite magazines, you’ll probably feel a lot better. Inhale self-love, exhale self-doubt.

6. List Down Certain Things Like:

Your Accomplishments

At the end of the day, make it a habit of taking some time to note down the tasks you’ve accomplished on that day or in the past months or year. Were you able to finish reading a book? Cooked a nice meal? Connected with your friend? It might seem like a small thing but tiny things accumulate in order to achieve something great.

Things You Love About Yourself

Whether it’s a part of your body, something about your personality, or a special talent you have, write it down and show yourself some love.

Things You Are Grateful For

Write down a list of everything you’re thankful for, whether it’s a new book, spending time with a friend, or freshly laundered pillowcases. Read it over, reflect about it, and feel more positive.

7. Pamper Yourself

Indulge in some self-care at home with facial mask, facial scrub, and moisturizer, and treat your skin with an evening of amazing exfoliation and hydration. Your face will thank you for it. Light a candle, lie down and zen out.

Otherwise, schedule a massage, get your nails done or deep-condition your hair. Relax, and let someone else take care of you. Show your body the love and care it deserves.

8. Have A Sound Quality Sleep

Call the night a little earlier and dedicate it to getting a deep 8 hours of sleep. It can help you improve your energy, clarity, performance, vigilance, memory and overall, actually helps make you happier.

9. Give Yourself A Mini – Tea Party

Take a fragrant, warm, soothing cup of tea, take a deep breath, clear your head and enjoy a few moments of coziness with your sweet adorable self.

10. Do Something Good To Others

Altruism can result to both material and spiritual contentedness in life. Doing something kind for others, persons or animals, makes us happier there are infinite little ways to make a difference. Spread a little magic by giving an unexpected compliment, appreciation, or random act of kindness on V-day or in any regular day. Feel the happiness of making others smile, glow and light up.

11. Listen To Music That You Love

Music can significantly shift your mood, so create a playlist that perks you up or relaxes you or something that makes you happy. Listen, breath deep and enjoy the magical side of its symphony.

12. Open Your Heart To Compliments

Be open to receive compliments and never deflect their kind words. Let people in and allow them to warm your heart. Smile and say “Thank You”.

13. Learn How To Say ‘No’

Although difficult, sometimes we have to say ‘No’ to our friends who wants to have coffee, to colleagues who need to have a drink, or to take on that extra task at work. There are only 24 hours a day and you do have a limited amount of power. Don’t overextend yourself by saying yes all the time. Never forget that you are more important than any of your “things to do.”

Conclusion

It’s time for you to stop existing and start living. Self-care is the first and most essential step to that. Love yourself and prioritize your self first. When you take good care of yourself, it will radiate outward and positively affect everyone around you. You’ll also be in a better place to handle all the lemons that life throws at you.

Author’s Notes

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about the love of a partner.
In my book, it’s all about loving yourself. Period.
