Sometimes a short family getaway is exactly what we need.
During summer 2026, we traveled to Tampere for a simple vacation together as a family.
Unlike some of our other trips where we tried to visit as many attractions as possible, this one was much more relaxed.
We actually spent a lot of our time at the apartment we booked.
And honestly?
That was part of what made the trip so enjoyable.
We had a comfortable place to stay, a jacuzzi where we could relax, outdoor space for our little one, and enough time to simply enjoy being together without rushing from one destination to another.
Of course, we still explored some places around Tampere.
We visited Särkänniemi Amusement Park, went up Näsinneula Observation Tower, and spent some time at Ideapark in Lempäälä.
It was not a very long vacation, but sometimes we don’t need many days to make good family memories.
Where We Stayed: Our Airbnb in Lempäälä
One of the highlights of this trip was actually our accommodation.
We booked a private apartment through Airbnb in Lempäälä, Finland, conveniently located near Tampere.
The house was spacious, clean, and comfortable enough for us to spend several days there.
But there was one particular reason we chose it:
The jacuzzi.
That was definitely the biggest attraction for us.
We were able to relax in the jacuzzi whenever we wanted, and our little one enjoyed spending time with us there too.
After our other family trips that involved long drives, walking, sightseeing, and busy itineraries, it felt nice to have a vacation where we could actually stay at the accommodation and enjoy it.
Sometimes you book accommodation simply because you need somewhere to sleep.
This time, the accommodation became part of the vacation itself.
We spent plenty of time relaxing, talking, eating, and simply enjoying our family time.
A Place Our Little One Could Enjoy Too
Another thing we liked about the accommodation was the outdoor area.
There was a large trampoline outside, which naturally caught our little one’s attention.
There was also a playground nearby.
So even when we were not sightseeing, she still had something fun to do.

Our Airbnb Rating
Our Airbnb in Lempäälä was comfortable, family-friendly, and the jacuzzi made our stay even more relaxing.
★★★★☆ 4.8 out of 5
Was it absolutely perfect?
Not completely.
I don’t think there is such a thing as a perfect accommodation anyway.
The only thing we noticed was that the apartment felt a little dusty in some areas.
Perhaps it had not been occupied for a while before our stay.
But other than that, we were very happy with everything.
It was comfortable, spacious, family-friendly, and the jacuzzi was definitely a big plus.
For us, it was exactly the kind of accommodation we needed for a relaxing summer getaway.

Places We Visited Around Tampere
Even though we spent plenty of time relaxing at our accommodation, we still wanted to explore a little.
Here are three places we visited during our summer getaway.
1. Särkänniemi Amusement Park
Of course, when traveling with our little one, Särkänniemi Amusement Park was an easy choice.
Särkänniemi is one of Tampere’s most popular family attractions.
The resort includes the amusement park as well as Näsinneula Observation Tower, an aquarium, a planetarium, Doghill Fairytale Farm, restaurants, and other attractions.
When we visited during summer, there were plenty of families around.
The atmosphere was lively, with rides moving everywhere, children playing games, and people walking around the park.
There are rides for different age groups and height categories, including several designed for younger children and families.

Our little one naturally enjoyed the experience.
But one of her favorite moments did not even involve one of the big rides.
She played a duck-picking game.
There were little ducks floating in the water, and she had to pick one.
She had picked a duck and won a stuffed toy.
And that was enough to make her day.

2. Näsinneula Observation Tower
While we were at Särkänniemi, we also went up one of Tampere’s most recognizable landmarks:
Näsinneula.
The observation tower reaches 168 metres at its highest point, while the public observation deck is located at around 120 metres. The tower was completed in 1971 and gives visitors panoramic views over Tampere, its surrounding forests, and lakes.
Going up gave us a completely different view of the amusement park.
We could also see the roads, buildings, forests, and vast lakes surrounding Tampere.
That is one thing I continue to appreciate when traveling around Finland.
There is water almost everywhere.
From high viewpoints like Näsinneula, you really begin to understand just how much the lakes are part of the Finnish landscape.

Tampere From Above
The view was definitely worth going up for.
On a clear day, visibility from Näsinneula can extend more than 20 kilometres, and the observation deck overlooks both the city and surrounding lake scenery.
We spent some time simply looking through the windows and finding different places below.
For us, this became one of the most memorable views from the trip.
3. Ideapark Lempäälä
We also visited Ideapark, located in Lempäälä near Tampere.
After outdoor activities and amusement parks, sometimes you just want somewhere indoors where you can eat, walk around, and relax.
Ideapark worked perfectly for that.
It is located around 20 minutes from Tampere and currently has around 150 shops and services, along with restaurants, cafés, and several family activities.
It felt like a large shopping mall where we could spend time without needing any particular plan.
We walked around.
Did some window shopping.
Looked through different stores.
And most importantly…
We ate.
A Break for Everyone
Our little one also had time to play while we were there.
Ideapark has several family and children’s activity areas in addition to its shops and restaurants.
So it was another destination where both the adults and the child could find something to enjoy.
We did not go there planning a major shopping trip.
It was simply a comfortable place to spend some time, eat, let our little one play, and browse around.
And after a day filled with activities, sometimes that is exactly what you need.

A Different Kind of Family Vacation
Looking back, I think what I liked most about this Tampere trip was how relaxed it felt.
We did not need a complicated itinerary.
We did not wake up every morning thinking we had ten attractions to visit.
Travel does not always have to mean seeing as many places as possible.
Sometimes slowing down is part of the vacation too.
Would We Visit Tampere Again?
Definitely.
There are still many places around Tampere that we haven’t explored.
This trip only gave us a small taste of the city and its surroundings.
Next time, perhaps we can explore more of central Tampere, visit museums, walk around the city, or discover some of the other places we missed.
But for this particular summer getaway, I think we had exactly what we needed.
…plenty of time together.

More From Our Journey to Finland
Trips like this have slowly become part of our life since moving to Finland.
Before we started exploring places like Tampere, Helsinki, Oulu, Kuopio, Levi, and Rovaniemi, there was first the bigger journey that brought our family here.

Our short Tampere getaway reminded us that a vacation does not need to be packed with activities to become memorable. A little sightseeing, some relaxation, and uninterrupted family time were more than enough.

I love relaxing family vacations like this. Sometimes they are all you need!
I love the idea of choosing accommodation that becomes part of the vacation instead of just somewhere to sleep. Having a jacuzzi and outdoor space for your little one sounds perfect for a relaxed family getaway!
Tampere sounds like a lovely place to visit. It is nice to find a good AirBnB like that, and to really enjoy the amenities. It sounds like you got in some good family time together.
I really, really want to see Finland one day. I had already wanted to see it, but these posts have really lit a fire under me to get there.
This looks like such a nice place for a weekend staycation! I’m glad your family had a lovely time. It’s also great that there’s an amusement park and other family-friendly attractions nearby, so you can enjoy more than just the Airbnb itself. It sounds like a fun little getaway for the whole family!
